You say fad yet you use the priciest 5 BLADE cartridge with a vibrator in it!!??
But I have one also. Takes 30 seconds btw to get cream whipped into lather with TOBS Cream.
And as was mentioned once you get technique down using a DE razor only takes a couple extra minutes.

You will not. It is called CO Bigelowe. And I believe even that's getting harder to find. And then it was only the green tube of cream. Pretty sure it is the same product as green Proraso. Just different name on label.

I'm a little upset. The SO bought me the TOBS Lemon Lime scent for Valentine's, so now I've got two cans of that stuff, and I just can't justify going buy another shaving cream. I'd feel like a woman with more than two kinds of shampoo. Hell, I almost feel like a woman now for having two different shaving creams.

Haven't clean shaved since October
I trim it up but never shave it clean. The women dig the light beard look

get a perfect comfortable clean shave everytime and I still have 30 extra minutes to use doing something better
And that's wonderful for you. I shave at night, and still pass for clean shaven the next day. Since I'm 1/4 Wookie, if I tried that with a cartridge, it would look like I didn't shave at all. My kids used to joke that I got 5 O'Clock shadow at noon. Now, I can actually get by shaving every other evening.

4 cartridges ($16) will last me two months and I'm 36, I have pretty coarse facial hair. Can of Barbasol is $1.67
I used to think this too, like my face had steel wool growing out of it
FTW I was following this thread a last month and got shaving kit at Target. I used to hate shaving, but have enjoyed it the past few weeks.

I could shave at night and be fine the next day also, but I'd rather spend my time doing something more enjoyable or necessary than shaving.
This boils down to a $ vs time thing. For the extra $$$ you have to spend to get a good retro hip fad classic dapper dan 1920's man shaving rig, which youll be constantly wanting to upgrade this and upgrade that, plus the added time it takes you to get it all set up after a shower, i'll have cooked myself some breakfast and be eating and watching the news while youre just finishing your first pass. You can exaggerate how little time it takes you and say "oh well it only takes me 8 minutes, 5 minutes, etc" but for the normal guy that is wise enough to shave in the shower we'll be done by the time you even begin.
I'll spend the extra $30 per year on whatever cartridges i like while the fad person is so into his dapper dan rig that he cant stop spending money on the better badger brush or shave mug or whatever..

Except that you're forgetting that my showers are shorter than yours. Literally for the reason you just explained. I used to shave in the shower as well. It's faster to shave right out of the shower. You don't even need a towel. You drip-dry and walk away when you're done shaving. Now I'm a leg up on you, and I have one less towel per day to wash than you.
Your move.

Been using my Merkur DE, Proraso shaving cream, Osma Alum block, and badger brush for a few months now. Actually just got through shaving a few minutes ago.
It used to be a chore, but now I actually enjoy it. I get a much smoother shave, and it's cheaper.

No sir you are not. You are also wrong about the towel thing but that's irrelevant.
You spend your time getting all your Oh Brother Where Art Thou Dapper Dan Man rig situated and ready.
I'll add 4 minutes to my shower, if that and call you when breakfast is ready so you can hurry up on your second and third passes. ;)

Best tips given to me after I butchered my face the first time:
- Don't use the same pressure as you would a disposable razor. Hold the very tip and gently press on your face. Let the weight of the razor itself apply the pressure.
- Use only a slight angle. Start with the handle parallel to the floor, then bring it down about 30 degrees.
- I usually make one pass with the grain, re-lather, then make a pass across the grain. After you've mastered that then you can try against the grain.
Don't know how long your facial hair is right now, but remember it's about beard reduction. Make several passes.

And I'll add 8 minutes to my post shower (which is probably 4 minutes shorter tahn yours), realize that 4 minutes is almost no time at all in my day, walk downstairs to the coffee that has been put on the night before and is freshly made when I walk downstairs, and eat the little breakfast of oatmeal that I do, because I don't like a large breakfast early in the morning.

I have a a few days worth of facial hair. Maybe 5-7 (I know it varies) but it is to the point where a cartridge razor would pull and tug on it, I'd have to trim before hand. Should I trim or let the DE do its thing?

Those 10 seconds? I leave my razor out now because it actually looks nice, so that saves those ten seconds.
