OR, and just hear me out, or the heroin epidemic was created by doctors prescribing opiates and hardcore pain meds like candy. Oh you have a back ache? Here, take 4 of these hydrocodones a day. You'll be alllll better. Meanwhile, they could puff a little puff of the Devils green stuff, get all of the pain releaving pros without the side affects or horrible addiction that comes with these pills.

I have been to various parts of Mexico half a dozen times for business. How anyone would want to vacation there (cartel or no cartel) escapes me. There is a reason we have a ton of Mexican illegals in the US. Mexico is a shite heap.

A broken leg =\= a nagging pain. Obviously I was not talking about broken bones, post surgery pain pills. Where you get a few weeks worth of pills and that's it. I'm referring to nagging pains which you'll be on these meds for months if not years. Oh my back hurts! Here's your hydros come back in 6 months!

Damn. That stuff is scary, especially in tourist destinations. I was in Istanbul a few days before the airport attack. From the videos shown I knew exactly where some of the shots were fired. Eeek.

I know right? I'm in Moscow reading this thread and its crazy.

They are a god send after surgery I would have beaten someone over the head with my soft cast over my hand post surgery if they got in the way of me and those pills. Once I was a few days out and the pain was more manageable, flushed the rest.

It really is a shitty situation, as it's hard to tell who Needs pain meds and who "needs" pain meds. And the moral delima is you don't want to deny someone who really Needs it, so more people who "need" it, get it.

But in all seriousness, the rate that these pills are given out like candy is the real issue and root cause for the heroin epidemic. Not the cartels. The cartels capitalize on it, but the desire and crave is fueled by the ease of access via doctors.

What about coke, meth, and heroin?

Weed is the big chunk of their business and funds their hard drug operations. Weed is their most profitable operation as well. If they shotgun a bunch of weed over the line and half of it gets seized, they still make money. You can't take hits like that with heroin, coke, or meth amd still continue to make money.

There is a certain uneasiness about the place. I could never get comfortable there.

I'll be there in April, June, and October. I've always felt much safer there than I do the FQ.. I'm gonna have to read up on this though.

We used to cross the border and get frickED UP every weekend in Reynosa. Once 9-11 happened everything changed. It was sketchy back then, but nowhere near today. Kids growing up in sotx nowadays have no clue what they missed. Nickel cuervo shots FTW

Sounds like you're going to the wrong places. This is why I go to Mexico.

Once the cartel violence starts hitting the big resort areas of Mexico, you will see that government finally giving a shite.

It is only a matter of time. One coked or methed up boss or a crew of Zetas get pissed at the wrong time and shoot up the wrong place. An attack on a major resort or a Squid Row type place? Mexico tourist dollars will dry up. I can't even wrap my head around what that would mean for Mexico.

It has already had an effect on me personally. I may still take a trip to Mexico as it stands now, but gone are the days where I would go shop in Cancun City and sit around drinking $1 Coronas and Pacificos. Hell in 2002-3 I saw the first Uzi (in service) I have ever seen in my life. And that was a security guy standing in front of an ATM. That was 2002. The Cartel threat was not a thing yet really. Not that we knew of.

Just spent two weeks in San José del Cabo and felt safe the entire trip. This is being blown out of proportion
