God forbid you get diagnosed with cancer. Are you going to see an oncologist? Or remove yourself from the gene pool?

Let’s not get being diagnosed with cancer late in life as being in the same ball park as a baby needing multiple procedures to survive.

Ok. Go back to your 25 year old self. You go see a doctor or you fall on the sword for the perceived betterment of humanity?

I have time for a medical ethics lecture. What specifically would you change?

Of course during this day and time I would go see a doctor. I will also say that yes I would be weakening the gene pool by surviving treatment and breeding.

If you aren’t willing to fall on the sword, why should anyone else?

Not asking anyone to sacrifice their life to strengthen the human gene pool. I was merely stating my opinion on modern medicine weakening it.

And that we need a thinning of the herd.

Just not you or your loved ones.

That’s a great point.

OP, what are your thoughts on genetic testing before reproduction?

If you test positive as a carrier of a genetic disease you should not reproduce.

Over the last 100 years the advancement in medicine has saved the lives of weaker babies that would not have survived during any other time in human history. These babies grow to reproduce and further weaken the gene pool. The strongest are no longer the only ones to survive.
Compared to the rest of the animal kingdom, humans are weak as shite. We are slow and frail, and we couldn't win a fight against 99% of animals of comparable size.

So your argument falls apart immediately. It is not the "strongest" who survive, it is the "fittest". And the only reason humans are as successful as a species as we are is because of our brains (and maybe the opposable thumbs and speech ).

Intelligence is by far the most important factor in our fitness to survive. Because when the environment changes, most traits require thousands of generations for a population to adapt. But a brain can adapt almost immediately to any environment. And two brains can adapt faster than one. And eight billion of them can adapt faster than two.

So your premise is flawed. Our bodies don't matter. Our diseases don't matter. We aren't building a football squad, we are building a species. And for our species, the only thing that matters for our survival is brains.
