Wow... three pages of responses and only a couple of them are actually relative to your question. "Don't move back, there are too many unhelpful a**hats like me that live there!" 
You should just ask your brother-in-law what our latest speeds are and I can get you a better idea of what we pay for it next month when they apply the discount I called about last week.

That's the OT with pretty much anything to do with Louisiana.
Cox is the provider that most people have. They have service up to 300 Mb (1 Gb in some areas) but that tier is about $100 per month. They are pretty much everywhere except in very rural areas.
Most areas also have AT&T U-verse but it's slower than Cox unless you live in a neighborhood where they have run fiber already. They are slowly building out this service across the city.
If you are in Ascension parish you can also get Eatel.
