I probably wouldn't do VaHi or Decatur from where you'll be working.

Couldn't get anything for less than 1k anyway unless it's a dump.

Alpharetta, Roswell and Sandy Springs would probably be your best bet. Woodstock or Kennesaw would be decent options too. I'm not sure how the traffic is from Decatur. 285 is usually a bitch regardless though.

He'll be priced out of Sandy Springs for any apartment that isn't a ghetto shithole.

Roswell and Alpharetta aren't the worst options, and while I endorse the downtown makeovers, I don't know that I'd want to be stuck there in my late 20s if I were single.

Kennebaw. It's probably a little too far but it's a nice place that's not too expensive and I wanted to type out Kennebaw.

Probably true. I'm not familiar with the prices there.

Thanks, ive heard the home flipping market was tough in Atlanta. Its more of a side thing I do. Have a house going now so itd be a while before I could buy another one anyway.

Have heard a couple for Brookhaven and Virginia Highlands. Will take a look at both of those places for sure.

I live in Acworth and love Kennesaw.

Downtown Marietta on the square is great but I don't think anything near the square would even be close to 1k a month.

Agreed.

Nearly impossible to travel from Woodstock or Kennesaw to Dunwoody in under 30 minutes. 75 to 285 from Woodstock or Kennesaw would NOT be fun at all.

Smyrna and Vinings are nice, lots of younger folks, would avoid the I-75 traffic to Dunwoody, and you'd be very close to Sun Trust Park.

Problem is that Sandy Springs is trying to purge itself of affordable Roswell Road apartments (which are all junk) and bring in new apartments that are going to be 1500+ for a 1bd. It's good for Sandy Springs but not great for young people.

If you're looking for a neighborhood to buy a house to renovate and sell I would look at Woodland Hills. It's a small pocket South of Lavista, in between Lenox/Chesire Bridge and Briarcliff. Post WWII era smaller homes on big lots. A lot of people are buying them for the lots and rebuilding. Chesire Bridge has historically been sketchy but there are a number of developments underway and I'm sure more to follow over the next 5-10 yrs. You can still get a house in there for the $300K range and all of the surrounding neighborhoods are at least double that.

Well, I've got bad news and I've got bad news...

If you live next door to your workplace, you're still looking at a 45 minute commute. And I hope you like getting stabbed, because with that budget you're going to live in the ghetto unless you get roommates.

You can find great places for young people in the suburbs with a ton of things to do, just not close to where you're going to be working. Marietta Square is like that. So are downtown Acworth and Downtown Kennesaw. They would be terrible commutes though. Downtown Decatur is like that but I don't really consider it a suburb.
