New dogs. New house. On it.
I may have a solution for that guy who couldn’t get the squatters out of his house…

Go back and look in that thread. I said that his problem was nothing that 50 or 60 venomous snakes, a family of skunks, and an old Haitian woman with a black belt in voodoo cant fix.

If you’ve never experienced it fresh and close, let me tell you, it’s unbelievable. I don’t know why any animal with a brain would ever mess with a skunk.
tru dat.
Forty or so years ago my son and I were hunting in west Texas on the last day of the season - freezing cold with howling wind and temperatures in the teens.
Walking back in ankle deep snow, we saw the largest skunk we'd ever seen and shot it - it collapsed straight down onto its belly - never moved a muscle. We smelled no odor as we approached it - not a whiff - and assumed the scent gland had not been damaged. We then got the great idea of making us a skunk-skin hat, ala coon-skin model.
I went over to lift it up by the tail to begin the skinning process and we were hit with the most violent scent I could have ever imagined. I always thought the smell of skunk at a distance was not unpleasant at all. But this was an attack on our senses so bad that we actually had to run from the scene, eyes blistering and nose in pain.
It wasn't so much an 'odor' at all - it was a violent chemical attack.

There's one on our property right now, or I guess it is still there, I haven't seen it in a few weeks.
Anyway, back in June(ish) I guess as it was making its nightly rounds something spooked it and it sprayed right under the window unit I have in my shop. I was working and smelled it right off. I killed the AC, but it was too late. That smell was everywhere and overwhelming. I waited a few minutes for the skunk to leave and bailed. Went back a while later with a couple fans, turned the AC back on to just the fan, put the fans near the windows and opened them, and left. It took a couple days to vent it out that way.
I've seen that skunk several times. As skunks go it is a pretty animal, more white and bushier than any other I've seen. This time of year I may or may not trap squirrels. I don't have a spray proof trap, so I've been scared to put it out.

It is hard to describe the intensity of that smell when directly interacting with the chemicals themselves. As I mentioned, the odor of a far away skunk is mildly pleasing to me. But that experience made me cautious about close encounters.
Which brings me to my only other skunk story - different hunting trip, I selected a spot on the side of a fairly large canyon and got sleepy. Laid down resting my head on a log and decided to take a little nap. Something woke me up and as I glanced around, I saw baby skunks, with more rustling behind me. They apparently had not noticed me so I just lay still. Eventually they all worked themselves down the slope and out of my way.
I left them totally alone - I need no more direct encounters.

When I was a kid someone gave my parents a skunk rug. It had an “essence” and I loved it, lol.
A full on skunk attack is a different experience.

A girl I went to elementary and middle school with had a pet skunk. It had been de-scented and they had the license or whatever they needed to legally keep it. The damn thing was leash trained.

Used the magic mixture, with a good bit of Dr. Bronner’s lavender soap mixed in, and it’s so much better. It’s in the walls, though, and I guess nothing but time will cure that. Have burned so much incense I’m starting to feel the need to dred lock my hair and get a nose ring.
Been there. Hang in there.
