How old is this kid? Honestly, the kid probably does not know what a functional/healthy relationship is. Just be patient, treat him like you would your kid, and do the things he probably wishes would happen but haven't, like read him a story at night before bed, camp in the back yard, tell him he is worth something. Don't let the kid sit on x-box all day. Just do normal things, however be prepared for the emotional fallout when he has to go back into that shitty environment.

He’s not educated. Well, by most people’s standards. This side of her family lives in the hills of Kentucky.
Judging from your initial post, that's rich coming from you.

He 9 and no. My parents worked in mental health ( dad all my life and mom for a few years with abused kids) it’s very sad. I know people will make jokes but no one would turn a blind eye if they saw how the 8 other kids treated him and the guardians ( male 77 and probably will die in the next year and the woman in her 50s) have no control.

He can’t read. Has no math skills. I wrote it quickly at work.

I would like to give you some advice, but I don't understand a damn thing you wrote.

Good Luck baw.
By the way, Paul is going to hate you for sending him back after the summer is over. You might as well start planning that new wing to the bawpad and start the adoption process.

That’s what I’m afraid of. When he goes back what will happen but atleast he had a great summer.

dude, throw him in the trash. if you want a reform project, get them while they still in diapers or else you are just going to accept legal liability for a future meth head or serial killa.

Both parents are in prison... you should go get an opinion from a damn good family law attorney. If there are that many kids living under one roof, the court may place him in temporary custody with you guys. Esp. since he is 9 and can't read or do math.

I'm glad yall are taking him for the summer. I hope he is respectful enough to recognize a good thing when it comes his way. Not sure of yall situation, but I'm curious bc of the way you've described his home life (parents both in prison), if adoption would be an option? I know it's a lot to take on, and you are certainly doing more than most by providing a normal summer for the kid.
This summer could be life changing, but adoption would guarantee it.

First, please fix your title. You do mean brining and not being right?
It sounds like a sad situation. I am not one to stereotype people and it would be stupid to think that every family in Kentucky is similar to this, but it seems like the average family in Kentucky has a bunch of kids, live out in a rural area with the family having to go a long way to go anywhere to do anything.
Someone related to be (by marriage) is from here but got married and moved to Kentucky. They live in the middle of nowhere.. And when I say nowhere, I mean the closes walmart to them is like an hour away. They have a small country grocery story where they shop but every few months they will go do a "big shop" at walmart to get things they can't get at their grocery store (cleaning products, etc).
Her husband's family is huge and he has a lot of siblings who most of them have relatively large families and because they have so many kids and they are closer to the poor side than the middle class side, it's not affordable to go take the family out to eat, etc.
But as for as your situation.. It sounds horrible. It's good that he is able to get away for awhile, but that is temporary. Once he goes back it's going to be the same thing. Try to get him interested in something he can do to keep to himself and not have to worry about getting attention.
The bad thing is, anything you send him home with, the other siblings will likely take from him. Just see how it goes and play it by ear.

Yup. Just curious, is he getting a social security check?

Good for y'all.
Ease the kid into being a kid. Don't over stimulate him.
Let him be a kid. Sounds like he knows nothing of it in his current situation.

I hope they aren't brining the child. That would be an effed up summer.
