I'm looking at 7pm to 5 am. I'm an inspector, so my job isn't took bad at all. It sounds like it'll be a lot of baby sitting, side they're doing bridge demo at night in Denver.

Black out shades will suck for another month, since I live in Boulder, CO, and it can warm to the high 80s/90s, and most houses here don't have AC.

Dinner may come at 6 am. Breakfast at 5 pm.

Clocks lose all meaning. You'll find your mind goes a bit...funny during the witching hours.

You'll get funny looks walking out to check the mail at 8 am with a beer in your hand. You'll sleep fitfully during the day at first. Your body will fight it.

I build bridges and when we have to the nighttime stuff it sucks. I usually find a nice quiet RV park and ask for the spot farthest in the back black out all but the bathroom and keep it cold. Bring something to read at night and get out and walk around. I tend to eat 5 smaller meals when working at night instead of the 3 I eat normally. I usually adjust in about a week but feel tired unless like someone said earlier it's a job that lasts for months.

I listen to audiobooks. Don't know if that's an option for you.

Melatonin right after you get off your shift mixed with a couple of beers if that's for you. Some people claim melatonin does nothing for them, but it has worked wonders for me. I realize it may be a placebo effect, but if it works, it works.

I used to use melatonin, but it seemed like it quit working for me. I'll occasionally use over the counter sleeping pills, but only in when I accidentally take too long of a nap after work, and will stay up till 3-4 am otherwise.

I'm kinda pissed that I just moved to Boulder, and it'll be hard to explore around here with that schedule. But I'll just have to do it after work. A few mile hike will definitely make me nice and tired. Besides, I need to lose the weight I gained while working in Texas.

If you are going to be sitting in a pickup on site keep the dome and courtesy lights on, seems to help me.

I'm sure I'll have to try that. I've done plenty of deck placements that started early, but never the night shift.

I think I'll have to start bringing my camp stove to work and start brewing coffee on my tailgate.

I'm guessing you must be on the contractors end.

Seems they would help then.

Well, does your house have AC? Why do we care about other houses?

I can't use blow at work. I've gotta save it until after, so I can share it with the hookers.

Besides, when you're in a place where you can buy weed with a coupon, blow isn't as popular as other places.

Yep superintendent and surveyor for a medium sized GC and we specialize in bridges and large industrial foundations. The one thing I truly caution you on is to pay attention the guys doing the demo are going thru the same shite you are going thru. Even with plenty of lighting it's twice as dangerous at night especially around the abutments and under the bents.

We have an window unit in three living room where I'm at, and that's it. The guy I'm renting from had been out of town since I moved in, so I'm not sure if we have a swamp cooler.

But even if I really wanted A/C, I won't find it here, unless you rent a place even an OT baller couldn't afford. Though if it's too rough, I might have to buy a window unit. Which sucks, because you really don't need it, unless you work night shift during the summer. But if I can't sleep without it, I'll get one.

I always adjust pretty quickly. I actually get more sleep when I work nights because I petty much sleep from the time I get off to the time I have to go back. Definitely get black out shades and a cool room. Also, on your days off stay on schedule, it will mess you up if you try to do stuff on your day off. My struggle is always to get back on days.

get a routine and stick to it. I use to work mainly nights now 1/3 nights. I have an adult beverage when I get home go to sleep, try to get up by noon. eat breakfast work out, do stuff, If I need a nap I take a 20 minute one, eat my second meal then eat my third meal between 1-2 depending on how busy we are

That's solid advice. And I'm sure you know, that us inspectors always seem to park in the worst spots.

Yeah I can't believe I'm even giving advice to the bane of my existence

Most inspectors are ok, it's the new guys with something to prove or the environmental guys who really annoy me. We don't try to cut corners though and most of our hands have been here a long time and know wtf they are doing

Lol, I get that..I'm 32, but started at 18, but never had an ego or power trip So I live using common sense, if I can without some damn owner rep snitch trying nitpick. I guess it's a difference of attitudes. Some pull up to see how we can make it pass, others enjoy busting balls. I figure life is already stressful enough to intentional make waves.

I'll say, when I was in Louisiana, I thought environmental was still lacking. But then I moved to Colorado, and environmental is now a pain in my arse.
