Does the mayor have the ultimate authority on this?
Police Superintendent has final say on all parades rolling or not, and any necessary last minute route changes.
Now... Latoya can hire and fire the super.

Even if that were true, this decision wasn't made due to current conditions.

We've spent so much time today on the dead lady...
Did the city go out in the rain today and throw away stuff on the route?

Yup

Lol at you thinking there is any chance wind would have an effect on a float full of people, it's 100 percent horse shite
So the guy that lives 7 hours away and uses up a hotel night on a night with no scheduled parades, is going to tell all the locals about how floats operate in different weather conditions.
Snap into a slim jim, savage...

Yup We know people out since 6am, and the started making rounds around 8. Didn't make any after 11 I'm told.
Wow... so the city employees actually went out in the rain to work?
Holy cow... that almost never happens.

Also when the parades hit St. Charles past the circle that entire stretch is a wind tunnel. If winds are borderline unsafe during the uptown portion of the parade, it could definitely be unsafe conditions once the parades hit downtown.
Not saying I totally agree with the decision, but I understand why it was made.

I was shocked. They don't work like this the other 51 weeks of the year.

OH NO!
Wherever will people get their shitty plastic beads now?!

I'll accept the unexpectedly quiet night, might refresh me for the next onslaught.

I said that last year on the OT when chaos was cancelled for whatever reason so figured why not again

Have you ever been downtown with the wind blowing through those city streets between the tall buildings? It's like a wind tunnel and it feels like a hurricane is blowing through even with 20 mph winds....
I understand you're mad....but that was a bad plan to just come to NOLA for Tues-Thursday, especially night parades with young kids....last weekend was the days you should have come

High winds with a double and triple decker float spells disaster.

The clouds are moving quick downtown. I can assure you there is wind on the route already.
I mean, I am standing on the route.
Not saying it is dead still, just saying nothing that would make me say it is really windy.
It can definitely change though.

They had some good gusts at lunch, and the real wind is coming after 6. This has been spelled out several times in this thread already, but carry on.

I don't really think 30 mph winds would do shite to a float full of people while protected by trees and houses on a route.
That said, I fully understand why it's the better call to just move the parades on the off chance something does happen
