My thoughts exactly.

ETA: I don't know a thing about the guy. I was asking a legit question as to why people on this site are so against him.

I'm curious as well ... we haven't lived in BR in a long time and I'm not in the habit of staying updated (where I live has enough issues) but I am curious to the answer to this as well.

Because he was hand-picked and now controlled by a pandering mayor with help from a pandering governor to replace a much more qualified and proven chief purely for racial appeasement to a dysfunctional criminal-ridden element of the population.

Were any other candidates on the force at that time and if so and they were passed over, did they remain on the force?

To say "I've done something" about how low she pays them. It is completely garbage, but in her mind that means something.

I wonder why him and his brother took their mom's name. Certainly a little unusual.

Yes, two of the other candidates were actually right behind him at the press conference. Either of which would have made a much better choice.

To be fair, it's not like she pays them. And BRPD's shite pay was like that way before she got there. There's a lot of shite you can call her out about, I'm just not sure this is one. If you do, you also have to place responsibility on the mayors before her as well. Them getting low pay wasn't something she just decided to do when she was elected.

Well that was an awkward ending to the press conference. He ran back to the mic to say “and oh yeah, state police too”.

Correct. LeDuff was one of the best police chiefs this city ever had.

Jonny wanted no part of that job.

Very well could be wrong but I thought he was a candidate. The other would have been much better than this clown.

He was interim, but never actually put his name in the hat for the permanent position.

ETA: There was heavy speculation that he would be the front runner, which is probably what you're remembering.

Did white candidates have a shot at that job?

I’d say, to put it nicely, it was an uphill battle.

Also, think of these hypothetical optics: White mayor comes in, makes it objective #1 on his first day to replace a popular black police chief of many years, with the final pool of applicants all being white. You know damn well the usual suspects would be screaming to high heaven.

There are pictures of him on Donkeisha’s Facebook.

So if this was after a domestic violence homicide, who was fricking his ole lady?

WAFB has updated their info

I guess they finally got a print release from BRPD with correct spellings and whatnot

quote:

The suspect, Ronnie Kato, 36, was taken into custody without incident after a four-hour standoff, the police chief said.
