Yet we want gas to go back up now.

My guess would be higher demand and less supply back then and they never stopped drilling like they have now.


Also, the cost of drilling is much higher along with the shale boom that didn't help the U.S. Either.

Many of these factors with inflation also contributing. People often remember the good ole days and how cheap things were but fail to factor in inflation, $1 in 98 is equal to about $1.50 now.

Are you kidding? The bottom fell out in the mid 80s and lasted until mid to late 90s that's why you didn't see a layoff. The oilfield really didn't start picking back up until the 2000s.

Because US oil/ gas production wasn't anywhere near what it has been lately and there weren't nearly the jobs to cut
