Somebody bout to get paid
In all seriousness, you should only ride a bike in certain neighborhoods in New Orleans. I see people riding on Claiborne or Earheart and you're literally asking for it then.

Thanks
I'm alive and well. I am sure it was someone in town for the IM NOLA this weekend.

Isn't that part of the 70.3 course?

I was involved in a hit-and-run on my bike last year. It happened at night and I had lights in my bike. I was riding along Broad right where the 610 on ramp is and got hit from behind. It was a pretty bad collision but luckily I came away with only small scuffs on my elbows. Only damage to my bike was a chipped left pedal. That frick who hit me definitely had some damage to the front of their car.
I'm more careful riding along that stretch now. I'll let some traffic pass before I continue.
Also I'll take up an entire lane if I need to. It's within the law.

Yes, it is part of the course.
Nobody I know in the cycling or tri community has any clue who this is as now...looks to be an out of Towner out riding the course

Are we, though? I get it that those two streets are very busy. I bike, to the ride I mentioned before, down W. Napoleon, Bonnabel, and Robert E. Lee to get to it. I am well lit at low visibility hours, but otherwise I try to stay over to the white line and obey traffic rules.
People also shouldn't be going 60mph in 35mph zones, texting, and acting wreckless. It's a responsibility to drive a car, and I believe too many people disregard that. I'm guilty of it at times.

probably an idiot texting and driving.
Why do we just assume the bike isn't at fault? I've had to avoid several bikers recently that haven't been following the rules of the road.

Bikes that ride in a lane like a car and hold me up piss me off to no end.
I always look out for myself when I ride, don't trust drivers.
The creation of bike lanes between car lanes is dangerous and dumb.

probably just doing the math that there are more drivers on the road texting than there are dumb cyclists not obeying rules of the road.

Yea, it's an anonymous message board. If I get that worked up over everything posted in here I'd have a heart attack before I'm 30. Take a step back or maybe get off here if you can't handle it. No one said these people deserved what happened to them or are happy about it. So take an English class and chill out.

reasons not to ride a bike around busy areas. Hell I hate driving a car at times.

If they're experienced guys on tri bikes, I'm gonna assume that they're not biking against traffic or doing anything stupid

Usually triathletes just go in a straight line unless they have to turn or are jostling around their back pockets for a snack to munch on. They're like the friendlier version of cyclists.
But since they're always hunkered down, it's a bit harder to see them and know what speed they're traveling at. People are surprised to see me going 22mph, and I've had one or two close calls with people turning left not being able to perceive speed/distance correctly. They assume bikes all go 5mph. Heck, during a race with a strong tailwind I was hardly pedaling and going 38mph. Going down Nautilus in San Diego for a race I hit 60mph. EVERYONE just needs to be more aware and polite.
