Yeah, that angle makes more sense.
Before, it was hard to tell. From the first pic you can see the fire truck and more of the people in the right lane so I assumed that is where the accident took place.

I think he means we don't go ride with the intentions of trying to drop the newbie

I read on I THINK on Fox New NewOrleans that is w as a group of three riders. Two men, one woman.
Both men were hit, one killed one hurt critically.
I have scoured all tri friends and groups I know and nobody knows who this is yet.

quote:Well, I don't live on that street. Yes, republicans assume that everyone who disagrees with them is a far left liberal, but where they differ is that the R's don't want to silence everyone who disagrees with them. Also, they don't make the kinds of wild presumptions that I hear all the time from liberals.
It's a two way street.

not everyone who runs is a republican and not everyone who rides bikes is a democrat.
it is true 'cycling' is seen by some as an alternative to BIG OIL and fossil fuels & shite, but i would hardly characterize a group of triatheletes training & doing recon for an event that happens on that same road this coming sunday as being in that group.

btw those rumble strips are the worst thing ever invented for cyclists.
you are forced to make a choice of riding on one side or the other.
you cant ride on them long without flatting and rattling your teeth out of your head.
i hope they didn't swerve into the road to avoid debris on the shoulder and into the path of the car.
if those fricking things weren't there and there WAS debris they were avoiding (or a car on the shoulder), they could have ridden the white line and not been forced into the road (if that is what happened).

That's a pretty generous shoulder, I can see why it could be popular with cyclists.
My worst fear when I ride is someone not paying close enough attention and drifting onto the shoulder.
Prayers to the family

according to 4444, its part of the race course this weekend so they were likely doing recon.
even though it looks wide in that photo, without seeing the whole scene there's no way to know if there was debris on it, a stalled car or if there was a section where the shoulder narrowed forcing them into traffic.

MOST locals ride the road most of the time out there, not the shoulder. The shoulder has tons of debris and trash and isn't a "safe" option.
From time to time, depending on time of day, traffic, where on Chef I am I will jump on the shoulder, but most of the time most people are in the road within a foot or two of the white line.

is that exactly where the crash happened?

There is TONS of room here. There is no reason this should have happened.

according to the picayune (see my quote above)
i just plugged into google earth and rotated the camera around.
the other direction looks like the same as the photo of the bicycle & auto but that metal shoulder railing is definitely in the same area.

look at the top of your photo, above where that road comes out about 3/4 to the right. looks like all kinds of crap on the road and it definitely narrows in that area.
i think thats the same area as in my street view of the shoulder with the metal railing.
