Tiger Stadium in Detroit, September 14, 1968: Pitcher Denny McLain has just beaten the Oakland A's to become the first major league pitcher in 34 years to win 30 games in a single season. Dizzy Dean, who had been the last pitcher to achieve the 30-win feat in 1934 with the St. Louis Cardinals, was on hand to give McLain a congratulatory hug.

And I don't think anyone has won 30 games since. We're closing in on he's the only guy to win 30 games in the last 100 years.

I saw McClain pitch for the Shreveport Captains a couple of years after that season
