How do you live on $45k? That's near poverty...
The poverty line for a family of 4 in NC/SC is roughly about $24,000, so this job is nearly double the poverty line. Even if his wife only worked part time at a rate of about $12/hr, they would have a household income well above the state median. OT baller status? No. Money might get tight at times with 2 kids, but they'll be solidly middle class.
Edit: Can't really say much about Burlington itself, but my wife and I make several trips to Duke each year. You'll be close to awesome BBQ at Lexington BBQ in Greensboro. NC as a whole is a gorgeous state and you'll be a short drive (1/2 day max) to both the mountains and the beach. Not sure what you want your commute to look like, but I do know we looked at the Carrboro/Chapel Hill area when we considered a move to Durham. Carrboro especially is a charming town.

hope this was written ironically.
There's nothing ironical about the importance of good grammar, especially when you're looking to get hired at a job.
