Have had to do it twice. And it is very hard.
Do the right thing. Let her go.

That's the right call. We had to put Boudreaux (12 yr old Bassett) down a couple of months ago. Spine fused with arthritis, wouldn't eat, etc. He was the most awesome dog ever and I regret it every day even through I know it was right. Tell him bye still every morning on my way out to work. Heard him sneeze a few days ago.

Yeah we have someone coming to pick her up while we're at work.
That is a terrible idea IMO.
ETA: Saw you changed your mind. Good call.

I had to do 2 last year. Guilt is normal and I won't lie, it was the hardest thing I have ever done. But it is your love for her and your not wanting her to suffer that will help you through it. My thoughts and prayers. I had a golden also.

When they stop eating, they're letting you know it's time. Hang in there. She'll be waiting for you.

The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

You owe it to the dog. Don't whimp out. We put our Golden down when she was 12.
Just know this... It is the best way a dog can go. 12-14 great years with an awesome owner and they slip away with the owners loving them and telling them goodbye.
It will be heartbreaking for you but you owe the dog this. Do it and love your dog all the way to the finish line.

You did the right the fir the dog. Sorry for your loss. Glad you are taking her and will be with her. I could never not be with one of my pups if I ever had to.

I put my 14 year old Boston terrier down two years ago ( got him when he was 6 weeks old in college) I woke up one Sunday morning and his back leg was swollen so bad he couldn't walk. He just laid there. I knew it was time then. I laid with him all day and put him in my bed that Sunday night to sleep with me. Took him to the vet at 7:30 the next morning and had him out down. He "fell asleep" there in my arms when the vet did the deed. It was peaceful to watch. He only suffered for half a day. I miss that little son of a bitch!!!

Your heart knows.
She relied on you to make decisions for her.
Don't let her down now.

I did it on Sunday.
15 years.
The baby's dog since she was 5.
Loved her.

When they stop eating is when you know for sure
Usually, yeah. But I have a friend who's dog is 15, and it stopped eating a few years ago. When I heard, I figured he was gone. But his dad is a pharmacist, and they have him some kind of medication, and he started eating again. Either that, or my buddy started to get the dog high, I can't remember exactly.
My dog is almost 3. I hopefully have another decade with her. But if/when that time comes that she quits eating, I'll definitely try reefer for a couple days to try to keep her around.
Sorry to hear about your beast. It's always a horrible day when your best friend's time has arrived.
