I’m honestly surprised by the number of kids still wanting to attend college. For well over a decade now so many people have said college isn’t worth it anymore and that it’s way overrated and overpriced. I really don’t know what to believe anymore.
Kind of hard to be an engineer, lawyer, doctor, or work in accounting/finance without college

There has to be some correlation between LSU receiving tax dollars from Louisiana and their acceptance of La. Residents vs. the charge for of state tuition ! What is this relationship ?

Yeah, he's talking about the marketing, general business, criminal justice, and early education degrees that most people get.

I'm telling you UT and A&M are not options for even a 4.0 student anymore.
Total BS. My daughter was accepted by A&M, Auburn, Miss St, and LSU in fall ‘24. We’re from Louisiana. She chose LSU. Got scholarship offers from all 4.

Due to low holistic admission standards??
quote:
LSU led the country’s most selective public universities in increasing economic diversity since 2011, according to data from the New York Times

LSU’s shift toward holistic admissions standards, which deemphasized standardized testing and placed more importance on recommendation letters, personal essays and extra-curricular activities, came in 2018 under the direction of former President F. King Alexander
quote:
When contacted, Alexander said that due to holistic admissions, LSU increased African-American enrollment by 63% and Hispanic enrollment by 92%
quote:
In comparison, Tulane University decreased its share of Pell Grant recipients by 5%, during the time period that LSU increased it by 9%

That's completely irrelevant without numbers. You could spend less at UT than at Blinn with the right scholarships.

Can't get into UT or TAMU, may as well commute over to Red Stick.
Not a recent development.
Perhaps LSU is waiving out of state more now?
They waived out of state for me due to academics when I was there 02-05.
Got into A&M but not UT due to class rank. It’s a bitch at competitive suburban schools.

He probably should qualify his comment. A&M definitely isn’t the same level as UT. In fact, I think it’s easier to get into than 10–15 years ago.
But having a 4.0 (not on a 4.0 scale) is generally not good enough to get you into A&M and especially UT when you go to good suburban schools due to the top % rule.

Probably thinks 4 teeth is full set. Will be dropping flouride advice on us, too.

Or flag a minority checkbox. There is an admittedly small number of people that transfer into shitty school districts from Asian filled districts in order to get into the top 10%.

Gee I wonder if the tripling of applicants has anything to do with lowering standards to test optional holistic applications?
Of course you are going to have more applicants now. However there's no way they are higher quality now. All you did was lower the bar.
I assume there has to be some percentage to meet of incoming freshmen who are Louisiana residents. Anybody know what that is?

Most from out of state? Is married student housing still all Chinese nationals?

And Louisiana won’t be able to retain 95 percent of them post grad
because the state can’t get out of it’s own way. Sad really.

People thought I was nuts to attend LSU from Illinois in 2008, seems pretty normal now. I got a full ride scholarship so it was a no brainer.
