Somebody earlier said it best. To almost every single person in this city, they were just works of art. Someone to look at and maybe discuss. No one was revering anything.
That was me, and I've been saying it for a few weeks now.
I get the desire to argue about the quality of the men depicted in the statues, but that's a losing battle. The more important issue is that they weren't just erected. They've been there for 100+ years, and during the time NOLA has had any number of opportunities to take them down because of the huge groundswell of negative feelings locals had about them.
No one has ever said a damn word about them...
This goes for both sides. One of the funniest damn things has been watching nimrods on my Facebook feed argue back and forth with each other as if they are historians, when really there's just identity politic hacks who have been told by their side it's time to fight with the other side.
These were historical monuments apart from who they represented...local landmarks. They should have never been touched.

I hope he shows up to a saints game this year. Must see tv.
Saw him at Jazz Fest the second Friday in one of the artist booths. I'm sure people gave him a piece of their mind there,

Word on the street is they're not using a crane, they are using a Sikorsky MH-60T Jayhawk to remove the statue

"And I further declare and make known that such persons of suitable condition will be received into the armed service of the United States to garrison forts, positions, stations, and other places, and to man vessels of all sorts in said service." These two new policies - a call for black enlistment and enticement- turns Union soldiers into an army of liberation in the seceded states.
Naw bub...that turned black folks from slaves that were working in fields to slaves that were dying for Uncle Sam.
Still to this day black folks are slaves to the government...they just don't want to admit it.

It's my understanding, and it could be just social media posturing, that municipalities and other government entities are exempt from OSHA regulations.
I've read it on other sites, I do NOT know how accurate it is. And really, you think a Federal, executive branch bureaucracy is going to come after a Democrat mayor? C'mon.

They may not know what they are doing, but the guy running the crane is an expert rigger and it isn't like it is a complicated lift.
What exactly do you know? Your posts have made you seem pretty ignorant to construction things.

Exactly, he got more backslaps and high-fives in one afternoon, than for the last 8 years.

I seriously doubt that.

Word on the street is the mayor has sent a letter to Paramount to remove the Lee Circle scenes from Dukes of Hazzard.

I only know the 30 or so lifts I may witness on any given day.
The high risk lifts I have been involved in planning. (Which usually do include engineer input)
The 2 accident investigation teams I have been part of.
I do not to see how this falls in to almost any category that requires a PE stamp. Engineering review, yeah I see that.

You think B&G (oops) let their crane be operated by an amateur?
Well if they provided an operator, he sure as hell wasn't doing his job in guiding them in rigging the statue up, thus putting his companies equipment (his livelihood at stake) I am sure is General Liability Insurance carrier would have a field day with that one. Not to mention that they violated a pretty big OSHA reg when the where grinding on the forks of the Lull lift in order to slide them between the base and statue. I am sure that they did not have prior engineering approval to change the design of the forks.

If they altered the forks without manufacturer approval that is a huge no no.
