I think this might be Mitch's TD handle.

The people whom the statues idolize are part of the fabric of New Orleans. The statues themselves are part of the fabric of New Orleans, and have been for 100+ years. I'd say they are important to be prominently displayed where they were
I just drove by the former Beauregard statue. It's disgusting and looks like something you'd see in the lower 9 post Katrina after robbers stole the rest

Depends what you mean by care.
I don't care at all about them in regards to who the statues represent. Even if I did, anyone that thinks that's a battle they can win in 2017 is a lunatic, but their mileage varies.
I care because these things are iconic landmarks of the city my parents loved. While it's not currently on the chopping block, think of the Jackson statue in Jackson Square. I don't care who the statue represents, though I do respect Jackson. I care that much of my childhood was spent feeding pigeons under it. I care that I have a photo of my Dad standing in front of it in the 40's, my and my sister standing in front of it in the same spot in the 70's, and one of my sons in front of it in the 2000's. It's PART of New Orleans.
Removing these things for made up reasons makes no sense, and fighting to keep them in place does not require someone to be some asshat hoping the south will rise again. It's a false narrative designed to keep people from opposing bullshite when they see it.

They coming for the Paul Prudhomme statue next.

It's part of the landscape. No one really pays much to an oak tree on St Charles in its singularity. But dont go rogue and cut it down in the night and expect people not to get pissed.
The process is the major problem. Mitch took the grip and rip approach.

SPOT ON
Leave them where they are. I'm sure they will be replaced with some afterthought sh*t or just left void looking low f*cking rent. The mayor has stirred the shite and won't ever live it down.

Why hasn't Mitch gone after Jackson?

I have been totally against PGT and Jeff Davis coming down. REL to a lesser extent.
I just find it humorous what excuses people use to try defending leaving them up. Especially when they spout off shite that is factually wrong or misleading. Or hold Mitch responsible instead of everyone including tax payers and voters.
REL was a racist military leader that fought to keep slavery, at times allowed/encouraged his army to enslave free blacks in the north, made a few comments about slavery being wrong (technically he said they were worse for white people instead of black), then fought to make sure blacks were not given the right to vote AFTER the civil war.
Why am I against taking them down? Because I don't think art should be removed just because it is offensive. For the same reason I think Banksy-type art shouldn't be painted over by municipalities just because it puts them in a bad light. Statue supporters were doomed from tethers beginning because they tried to defend all of the statues the same, and as not being racist. Instead they should have asked if the Vietnam Memorial would be taken down because it valued Americans over the Vietnamese community.
I hate seeing artwork censored because someone doesn't like it. Maybe it makes someone mad, maybe that is a good thing.

Agreed. The grandstanding is uncalled for as is being shady with all the plans. What people don't know they will make up. If Mitch came with a plan to replace rather than remove, or create a confederate park for these statues and others, it would have been better accepted.

Mitch should have hired his son to take the statues down.

Mitch strong-armed it through the city council. Neither the taxpayers nor the voters ever had a say.
Mitch is responsible. PERIOD.

Tell him there's a line of coke under it and it'll be off its pedestal in minutes.

It's been 2 years. Has a single recall petition been started for Mitch or any council members?

He fought to keep blacks from voting because he thought they weren't smart enough to handle the process.
