I must not see the lower cost of living in LA that everyone else is seeing. Everything is expensive as hell
Because it is mostly a myth. Louisiana is only lcol when the dumbasses on here compare it to NYC and SF.

Seriously. What's low cost here?
I remember making arguments that BR was a good place to live bang for your buck wise in 2012-2013
I don’t make those arguments anymore

If you believe Louisiana has a low cost of living, you have never lived anywhere else. It's insanely expensive here.
We have the highest sales tax in the country. Insurance is ridiculous too. The list goes on and on.

He's really confused about how most humans live on this planet.

Louisiana is LCOL? Maybe in the sticks. Nola and BR metros are not LCOL for what they are. Louisiana should be one of the cheapest places to live in the country considering it's objectively a bottom 3 state. It's like middle of the pack though in COL.

Yeah decent homes in LC are like $300k min
Very few areas allow you to have kids go to public school, so that's $10-30k/year off the top.
LA taxes are crazy expensive.

It's objectively bad in 2023.

LA is upper teens in COL (1 being lowest), while being 7th in income.
For what LA offers, it is in no way LCOL.

Because the pockets of dysfunction take most of the real estate off the table.

Yeah we may be moving to MS eventually and, even with all the inflation of the past few years and the population increase, you can get homes on the coast where you can send kids to public schools for so much cheaper than SLA.

24th out of 50
Now you can include homeowner’s insurance as a massive hit.

It depends on the industry. Healthcare and most of the O&G sector bring home big money. I knew guys that were fresh out of high school who went and did wireline that made 80-100k in their first year working. They had to work 100 hours a week, but were doubling my starting pay at my office job.

It's so much more than just that.
It's high taxes, it's private schools if you can afford them, it's crazy high insurance, it's dealing with a high propensity for natural disasters and everything that comes with that.
High housing is just the beginning in Louisiana.

Not for nurses. Nurses in Louisiana make wayyyy lower wages compared to the rest of the country.

Hey guys you can make good money in Louisiana if you can do physical labor in the Louisiana heat for 14 hours per day, 365 days a year!

Silicon Valley and Seattle / Redmond are where a lot of the high paying tech companies are, hence they are the go-to when talking about software development jobs paying big bucks.
Even if you were going to another city with a good sized tech industry like Austin, you are still dealing with a lot of COL / housing issues, a number of which have been exacerbated by Covid causing people to sell in Cali, NY state, etc, and pay cash well over asking price for homes in these areas.
