It's not always that easy though. I worked with a veteran's association and the chairman would get called AT LEAST once a week by someone asking if he knew where they could send a homeless veteran for the night.

A lot of times these people either don't know who to turn to or they are ashamed to ask for help. It takes someone else stepping in and helping them.

And sometimes they don't want your help.

Here are your direct quotes:

quote:

You have to want to be homeless in this day right? So many shelters, section 8. You have to want it bad to be without shelter in 20 degree weather.
And another thing. If you choose to be homeless, how the frick can you live up North? -50 degree temps and you homeless in Minnesota?

quote:

The OP said only about being out in the cold with shelters available.

I think there's a clear assertion that homelessness must be a decision, a choice.

quote:

Nothing about being homeless.

quote:

Nothing about mental illness.

Correct, you never mentioned that...you just implied it must have been a choice.

quote:

Simply, get out of the fricking cold.
Others here have tried to turn this thread into something else. Not me.

If a lot of people are trying to turn the thread into something else then, perhaps, you poorly worded your OP...the fault lies with you.

no sir i am not.Why are you out to discredit me? I work around a huge homeless population and actually do interact with a couple of them. It's always about money, no matter how well we get to know each other.

a lot of panhandlers are not homeless and are simply trying to scam people so they can get a tax free income.

the ones that are aggressive over money and get pissed when you offer food are more likely the be scammers than actual homeless.

i may have been a poorly worded OP but everyone knows what it inferred. For those that chose to try to take every word posted in it by the books did so only to twist the meaning around to fit their agenda.
I had no agenda.
I simply wanted to know why homeless people didn't go stay somewhere warm last night.
I then wanted to know why there are homeless people who remain up north.
You knew that. Everyone else knew that.

It was and everyone did not know what you inferred.

I'd say very few knew that.

If anyone made a blanket statement, it was you. You said

quote:

it is a result of laziness and lack of taking responsibility for your actions.

Which logically means "homeless people are homeless because they are lazy and irresponsible."

I said mental disorders have an effect on people being homeless (in a less direct, sarcastic manner)

You reply that I implied all homeless people have mental disorders, which I did not imply, and which is obviously not true. How dumb are you?

Regarding your moronic OP, first of all, some drug addicted or mentally ill homeless person doesn't sit around reading weather reports planning what their outfit will be that day, or where they will stay that night. It's louisiana.. It's 60 degrees one day and 30 the next. They just try to survive...and you can survive in cold weather with enough clothes.

Why are there homeless people in Minneapolis? How should we know? My guess, they're probably from there. It's their "home". They know people, they know the streets and how to get around. A crazy 50 year old homeless guy isn't going to decide one day to move to sunny Los Angeles, where he doesn't know anyone or anything, not to mention he lacks the ability and money to travel thousands of miles away. He knows how to survive where he is, and that's what he's going to do.

Your post is moronic right down to the emoticon at the end. Yes, they are "crazy" , be it from drugs or mental illness, and not thinking like a fully functioning person in society does. We are all aware of that. Congrats on that astute observation, you dimwit.

If you haven't realized at this stage of your life that most homeless people have serious mental issues, I don't know what to tell you.

I would migrate with the seasons if I were homeless. Summer up North and winter down South

A large enough majority to be seriously considered before making rash generalizations, in my opinion.

i did seriously consider it. If 25-45% of homeless are mental cases, than 50-75% of homeless are just irresponsible losers who choose (deserve) to be homeless.
