Having experience as a LEO. If a perpetrator comes in the home and causes trouble you are justified. Although you can not shoot them in the back. What we do not know if evidence is being held back on what took place in the yard until this is thoroughly investigated. For all i know the lae may have been changed in louisiana. I retired 10 years ago. IMO.

In Louisiana, the property owner can confront the trespasser on his property.
If at anytime during that confrontation, the property owner feels his life or someone else's life is endangered or threatened or that he or someone is in danger of great bodily harm...lethal force is justified.

That makes sense. We will know when all the facts come in. Thanks for the law update.

Yep, castle doctrine applies to your car as well as your home. You have no duty to retreat from your car or home.
You are missing one obvious caveat. They need to basically be partially in the car.

How many witnesses do they have at that time?

Do you know what Jack the Ripper did with a knife?
Have you seen video of multiple cops tasering someone hopped up on pcp, to no avail?
You sound like a Democrat.

So he murdered a man for no reason instead of calling the authorities. I hope they give this dude the needle.

no, dude was in his yard. Trespassing. Could have been on bath salts. Better just to grease him and be safe.

The use of deadly force to protect property is contained in Texas Penal Code §9.42. This section of the law lays out a couple of scenarios where you are justified in reasonably using deadly force to protect your property. The first is if someone is committing trespass or interference with your property and you must reasonably use deadly force to prevent arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime or criminal mischief during the nighttime. If someone is unlawfully on your property and attempting to commit any of these crimes, you will gain the legal justification for using deadly force.

problem is you then have such little time to wait on that gun to start growing on him.

Doesn't matter if he was a Jehovah witness spreading the word...if he did anything that gave the property owner reason to believe he or his family's life was in danger.
The case hinges on if the deceased did anything that a reasonable person would deem to endanger the property owner's life or cause the property owner great bodily harm.
