Happy to shed light.
Our laws are very much in favor of the homeowner and car owner. You have to frick up pretty badly to truly run afoul, like by shooting a a guy who walked up your steps and rang the wrong doorbell a la the Japanese exchange student years back in Baton Rouge (though I think that pre-dated the statutes). The whole thing is whether the shooter had a reasonable belief that he had to shoot to stop the invasion. You may need to convince a grand jury, jury at trial, or just the DA and cops.

Didn't a guy in Nola east years ago shoot a guy breaking in his car from his second story apartment balcony? How was that outcome?
Here is your answer...
Yep, that guy claimed the kid turned toward him with what he thought was a weapon. Grand Jury believed him apparently. Good outcome

For example, if you are sitting in your living room and see an individual peering in your window, you will probably not be justified under Texas law in using deadly force against the suspicious person
Then that same guy rapes and kills women. Derrick Todd Lee.

shoot to wound is the best remark I have heard this weekend.
And where would that be?
Have you ever seen a target sheet with a knee or elbow?
In police shootouts, they fire dozens of shots and miss the criminal. And these shooters are trained professionals.

There was a case in NOLA from the 60s where a store owner lived above his shop. Heard some kids in his back yard stealing cokes. Shot one of them from his second story window. He didn't have to face criminal charges, but the kids parents filed a civil suit against him. (Don't recall exactly how that turned out - I should know, that was our moot court case in law school in 72. I guess my dementia is showing.)

What crime? A dude in your yard in and of itself doesn't constitute a crime.
Trespassing
Disorderly conduct
Disturbing the peace

Are those punishable by death now? Seems the most reasonable things to do would have been to go inside, lock the door, get the gun, and call the police. If the erratic creeper tries to come inside then you shoot.
All this assumes retreat into the home was a possibility, and the dude wasn't charging at him. If the dude made an aggressive move strike what I said.

You can better believe if some a-hole is on my property in the middle of the night and I feel like me or my family is in danger, I'm shooting the SOB. They would be lucky if the get a warning to get off my property first.

This is what a pussy would do. Here in 'Merica, we have right to protect ourselves and our property.

Witnesses are claiming to have heard screaming and the homeowner yell at him to get out of here. Supposedly the body was found less than 5ft from the front steps which would mean the dead guy did move towards the homeowner. I'm interested to hear what they have to say at 4.

There are valid legal reasons to stay inside and call the cops until the perpetrator forces your hand. This thread had already corrected a few misunderstandings of how castle doctrine works in LA. Unless you have a rock solid understanding, or you're forced to used deadly force, you're better off holding your ground in your home.
