WHAT IN THE MOTHER FRICK ARE YOU RANTING ON ABOUT?
Are you playing the "I'm as a dumb as her game." or what? All my kids had zero choice as to whether they went to college or not. And NOT ONE would have gotten an art degree on my dime. And they knew to not even ask.
She is dumb as dirt, and so is your blame placement.

quote:
What an idiot for following parental and societal pressure and attending college!
The issue is that there is an incomplete understanding of the importance of an education. People who aren’t educated think and often times relay the message that you have to have an education to be successful, as if an education automatically grants you success. An education is only half of the battle, you have to ambition and a personality, too.

Wonderfully intelligent and non melty reply.
You proved my point btw by admitting you forced your kids into college.

Another story about someone riddled with debt that attended a private university for undergrad. It seems that almost all of these stories involve the common theme of a degree from a private institution. I honestly do feel sorry for kids who can’t attend their state flagship university without going massively into debt. However, I have little sympathy for those that choose to attend the vastly more expensive private school and walk out with far more debt than a comparable degree from their flagship would have cost.
Don’t get me wrong, it is worth it in some instances. For example, no one is going to say take the much cheaper state public school option if you can go to Yale, Harvard, etc. Alternativey, if you’re talking about getting an English degree with little to no debt from LSU vs the same degree from Millsaps for three times the price, then don’t complain when you are straddled with 6 figure debt.
ETA: FWIW, the young lady in the article seems to recognie her mistake and is working to cut spending and work towards repayment. This should be applauded because it is far cry from what we see out of many folks who simply believe in straight up loan forgiveness or discharged through bankruptcy.
