You really only need to post there for actual music topics. This is the right board for your question.

I would say the tech board is the right place to stop. Only because a lot of AV professionals post there and can give you options you never even thought of

I have some old school Klipsch RF-7s that sing.

I bought them used for under $1,000

I've always loved the sound of Definitive Technology though.

Klipsch are bright but not shrill. DTs are warmer.

Pre-listened Klipsch are a bargain.

I always thought that those had a Victorian look to them.

Bought a pair of Klipschorns used in around '85 (they're '79s) and they're still making glorious sound in my den today. Bought as part of a package but I figure I paid around 1000-1200 for them. You can still get a good used pair for $3k.

Check out HSU.

While they are pretty well known for their subs (I can vouch for their performance)... Their other speakers get great reviews.

Traded for a pair of La Scala that had been recapped by Bob Crites.

Wonderful.

Also have 5 Heresy II for Center, Surround, & Wides.

I got a pair of Klipsch Hereseys in 1979. They still sound amazing!

I shopped quite a few tower speakers before I bought my last pair. These B&W 683 s2 towers, for me, were the perfect balance between top quality and price. They sound amazing and can take a lot of power if you like. They don’t distort and you’ll never see a negative review. The prices are pretty much the same everywhere and you can listen to them at magnolia audio (the premium audio branch of Best Buy) to see for yourself. You won’t be disappointed. Paired them with an SVS powered subwoofer which is also sold there.

Interesting. Does it do surround as good as the Dolby Atmos inserts? Guess I need to make another trip to Best Buy.

Don’t focus on surround or Atmos. Very little sound comes from those “accent” channels.

Focus on the main front L&R for music....then worry (very little) about surrounds and height speakers.

...my $.02

No way should a speaker cost more than your transportation.
