We still support our two families. We have given extra gifts and donated gifts to schools through them, but have not in a long time. They never hit us up though. I would hate their reputation to be soured on here, I would be interested to hear from others.

We sponsor a child through Unbound. Been doing it for years. She's in Honduras and writes my daughter frequently.

Guatemala for mine thru Unbound. You can also go on sponsored trips to actually meet the kid you sponsor

As I said, they didn't hit us up until we stopped donating. I'm not mad about it or anything, but that's our experience. Everything else seemed above board.

This thread wasn't a comparison of other charities to give money to. St Jude is great but Im interested in sponsorship of a child.

We picked Compassion and got a little Colombian boy. I think it'll be a great thing for our kids to experience as they grow older and hopefully provide some perspective for less than $500 a year. And I found out my company will match my donation so that helps even more.

Has anyone ever sponsored a child in another country?

I did. It was a long time ago. I don't remember the agency I used. I sponsored a girl in Colombia. I am convinced it wasn't a scam. I got letters, pictures, and information back until it got too dangerous for the agency to stay in Columbia. I was a bit devastated and still wonder what kind of a life she ended up with. I can only hope that I helped her to a better life than she would have had otherwise.

My grandmother has. It was through the church and she sponsored him for like, 10 years. The kid is a teenager now.

Why do they need middle man permission? They aren't in contact with the family/kid?
