It's an existential crisis for Baton Rouge. They have used and will continue to use every underhanded slimy tactic they can to prevent their cash cow from walking away until a judge they can't buy knocks their dicks into the dirt.

Until that happens, you just need to tighten up the chinstraps because it's going to be nasty.

St. George: Just the Facts

Stephanie Riegel with the BR Business Report, gave a talk in September. At around the 6:15 mark, she states that the lawsuits are being put together.

St George should countersue on the grounds that blocking St George would dilute black voting strength in Baton Rouge.

Does anyone know under what legal theory the parish government will use to challenge the new city?

The 14th Amendment, Brown v. Board, and the 1964 Civil Rights Act will be cited in the brief.

This is why you turn over the certification to Governor Edwards as soon as possible.

They did and by law the governor has to order an election at the next possible time, which he didn’t to. He skipped an Election Day and that is why it’s on the ballot today.

IDK about the legal theory, but the ethical theory is "the more a metro area does this crap, the worse it gets for everyone," e.g. St. Louis.

The people who pushed this had originally tried to push reforms to the EBR school system and had been told to STFD and STFU.

This is just like step 10 or 15 in a process that goes back a number of years trying to get the area’s problems fixed and the entrenched powers saying “Not happening.”

Any challenge would be as transparent as it would be a waste of time.

This situation isn’t like St Louis. No matter how many times you try to make that claim.

I have a feeling it won't pass. A bunch of Boomers were bamboozled by the "no new taxes" bullshite taxes. These were probably the same dumbasses who keep voting for road repair mils only to be found to be duped again in another 7 years.

Your feelings don't matter. Quit drinking the TBR Kool-Aid

the biggest issue is that if StG wins, JBE will be governor and he'll pick the government initially. GA-RON-TEED this hand-picked unit will enter into all sorts of agreements with EBR that will frick StG and "Save" BR (the city). that's the risk of a lawsuit, because if the lawsuits enjoin StG and JBE loses, they'll lose all leverage if/when the Appeals court dismisses the suit finally

So then St. George sues, ties it up in court until the election for the people's choice of candidates gets elected.

Mary Olive Pearson has already stated that she has the lawsuit already drawn up. Besides, it doesn't have o be the C-P that sues. If they don't then Richard Lipsey will hire someone who will.

Nope, schools are not involved at this point. This election is for incorporation of the city ONLY
