Don’t let me interrupt you on your noble quest against American wealth.
Keep fighting the good fight. You’ve almost convinced everyone littering is a wealth problem and not one of low IQ, socioeconomics.

Horse shite. Littering isn’t class specific.
You've never been to a poor country before, have you? I went down to Tijuana for a charity house build a few years ago. The ravines were piled with smoldering trash. It's very much socioeconomic. Yes there are some trashy people of higher income, but there is a very big correlation of poverty and littering.
quote:
I’ve seen people on six figure fishing boats in Grand Isle
You don't have to be rich to own an expensive boat. There are many trashy arse people who live in trailers but have a big arse boat, and a big arse truck (truck nuts optional).
quote:
If I could blame this all on poors, I would.
You should. Look at where Ward's creek runs, especially to where it comes from, that leads up to the burden center. At least in today's society, where we are all a little more environmentally conscious, that type of awareness or care isn't there when you are poor.
Also, as the article says,
quote:
“Our fathers and grandfathers have done this,” said Marie Constantin, a founding member of the Louisiana Stormwater Coalition. “When we’re picking up litter we pick up our fathers and grandfathers litter, and our litter. This is a decades and decades-old problem.”
This is true. The thought process behind littering has changed drastically in the past 30 years. Just about everyone is mindful of litter, now. Back in the 80's and 90s, that was not a big concern.
quote:
Might get cleaned up occasionally, but people litter all over again.
True, but i'd be willing to bet it would take 2 or 3 times as long to accumulate as much trash, as shown in the article, now.

I chastised the crap out of an addict who decided the parking spot in front of my office window was a good place to throw out his TacoBell wrappers while waiting on his Covid test results.
Louisiana citizens are the trashiest, by far. Its really sad to ride through the spillway and see all the trash. One of the most beautiful places on Earth, trashy AF

Aside from the lack of bugs up here, it was the most obvious difference.
When we go back home we are appalled at the amount of trash that's everywhere.
Just put it in a can. How difficult is that?
There may be some demographical differences between Idaho and Louisiana that play a role.

and even animals don’t shite in their own dens.
Poor analogy. That would be the equivalent of littering inside your own home. By throwing it away outside, they are doing what the animals do.

Funny how EBRPSS can be funded by the taxes for thousands of kids who go to private schools instead yet they don’t have enough money.
Yet the solution will always be more taxes.

SWB is too busy with her Better Together task force and JBE has his hands full on saving us all from Covid.

A ditch runs by our office dumpster...people driving by sling trash over the gate and if the dumpster is closed the bag falls and often tears. the wind and rain then washes the trash into the ditch and prob ends up there. People are animals.

Before we have the study, Mayor Broome will have a luncheon and a discussion.
Nope, already having a "study" and going to wait until the grant money doesn't come in and scrap the program.
quote:
Constantin is a strong proponent of the parish including a stormwater fee on residents’ utility bills. She used the city of Miami, Fla. as an example, citing a minimal $3 fee was tacked on and over the last five years it has been able to collect nearly $60 million to not only clean up litter from its waterways, but fix flooding issues that have plagued the city.
That idea has received pushback, including form the East Baton Rouge Parish Presidents Office. Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome said she wants to explore every opportunity to secure private and federal dollars to fund clean up and preventative measures, such as the ones Constantin has proposed.
Between this and other drainage and development issues, Baton Rouge will have another 1 in 500 year flood sooner rather than later unless something is done.

Wouldn’t hurt to get some of the residents of the EBR prison, shackle them if necessary, and make them clean up at least some of the parish. I’m not talking about forced labor a la the movie “Papillon”. But why we don’t make prisoners do some cleaning as part of or in exchange for serving time is beyond me.

Not ALL poors, but it's mostly poors responsible for the litter.

Wait so they have known about it for a decade and haven't done shite about it?

A lot of people bash Michigan for its politics and such, but i will say this, aside from the shitholes of Detroit and Flint that state is very clean and litter free. Once you get past the Saginaw bay going north it’s beautiful.

I was at a red light in Denham Springs last weekend and some woman in front of me opened the door and placed a big McDonalds bag on the road before driving off.
That blows my mind.
