All in on Longstreet and Houston for the future.
I don't mind if missing on Seaton freed up NIL funds for LSU to get Delane, Thompkins, Harper, and Bah.
They had some public meetings a couple of months ago about putting a couple of subdivisions on that property. At the time, they said they would incorporate the brewery and leave some of the farm aesthetics in the plans. I guess they scrapped that and Bayou Paul is going to get more generic zero lot line DSLD homes.

Most EPA violations are just documentation violations as a rule, not actual pollution.

And then you have Smitty's who think secondary containment means that's where you're supposed to store your oily waste and contaminated stormwater.
An inside look at what EPA inspectors found at Smitty’s Supply

Article sums it up pretty clearly for any with the time to read. The full report + pictures is even more damning. Pretty clear that it was not a matter of if but when there would be a major incident at this facility. Smitty's is going to be an textbook example of what NOT to do when it comes to industrial hygiene for years to come.

quote:

A U.S. Environmental Protection Agency inspection of the Smitty’s Supply Inc. petroleum packaging plant in Tangipahoa Parish discovered hundreds of other chemical spills and hazards in areas unaffected by the August explosion and fire.

EPA officials detailed their findings in an inspection report that formed the basis of a consent order that requires the company to address violations inspectors documented during an Oct. 7 visit to the Roseland facility. The agency made the report public Tuesday, stating in a news release that inspectors found an estimated 250 damaged containers, 200 chemical spills and more than 300 containers of unlabeled or unidentified substances.

quote:

The report includes alleged violations discovered in two undamaged warehouses that are the apparent focus of a related environmental crimes investigation, though the agency has said little about that case. The EPA Criminal Investigative Division, with assistance from the FBI, served a search warrant at the facility Nov. 18 that paused recovery operations near Warehouse 6 and Warehouse 10 for two days, according to information from other EPA records.

quote:

Many containers had no labels except for rudimentary hand-written notes with vague warnings such as “Danger,” “Waste,” “Bad,” “Expired,” and in one instance “Do Not Touch must do Labs.” Some labeled with “Corrosive” placards had their tops cut open with oily liquids, trash and debris inside.

In one area of the facility called the Truck Stop, inspectors found a collection of drums with “Radioactive” placards, with yellow police crime scene tape wrapped around the barrels.

Oily liquids were found in open drums, buckets and other containers — many without lids or with pieces of cardboard serving as makeshift covers. Some open drums sat outside with unidentified oily liquids, trash and random discarded items inside. Others were in patches of grass with no containment area to prevent spills from escaping.

Many containers had spilled or were actively spilling chemicals at the time of the inspection, the records said. Some unlabeled containers were surrounded by weeds and visibly deteriorating, and others were surrounded by barren patches of soil saturated with an unknown oily material.

Some totes, which are large, plastic containers with metal support cages, appeared damaged, corroded or bulging with pressure. In one section of pavement used as an outdoor storage area, many unlabeled totes and drums were precariously stacked on top of others without the support of pallets and dangerously leaning over. Some stacks were leaning, and others had fallen over with puddles of chemicals on the ground nearby. None of the containers were labeled, except for one with the word “Bad” written on it.

In one warehouse, a 55-gallon drum of oil was roped off with red caution tape bearing the word “Danger.” The drum was sitting on a crushed wooden pallet next to sealed pallets of brake fluid.

Also inside of that warehouse was evidence of other spilled chemicals on the floor underneath totes and bulging containers. One tote contained an industrial form of concentrated hydrogen peroxide, a volatile chemical that can cause skin burns and explode under certain conditions.

Inspectors were unable to fully examine one storage area because its access points were blocked by a grease spill approximately 3 inches thick and spanning about 100 square feet, according to the EPA report.

People also lose sight of what athletics is at its core. It's entertainment.

Watching LSU WBB compete for championships every year is entertaining. A sold out gym meet in the PMAC is entertaining. LSU baseball competing for national seeds every year is entertaining.

The priority for LSU Athletics should be putting the best product on the court/field.
quote:

Putting money into WBB will generate wins, but no matter how much you put in that program, it will never generate a profit. Quite frankly, it seems to only widen the deficit, the financial rate of return is awful.

On paper the losses for WBB are massive; but that's because they don't get credited with revenue from the All Other Sports ESPN/SEC deal, and they also don't get much dedicated revenue from TAF.
Don't forget a 10 point loss to fellow bottom feeder South Carolina at home.

This is the same guy that all but pissed himself when Lane put him in his place after the Egg Bowl, "You wanna walk in here and call me a hoe? We'll see how it goes."

Yeah, I think either last season or sometime this season they were giving out Nike hoodies; based on the LSU Basketball X account; last home game I think they got Sailor Mike t-shirts.

A massive jump from the rough, thin, Gildan t-shirts that were 75% McDonalds ads. Though the bobble heads during the Johnny Jones days were a solid promo.

eta: How could I forget access to the Student tent outside the concourse where you could get some mushy pastalaya and a can of coke (that you couldn't leave with).

If basketball’s profit margin grows with the hiring of a new coach, then it creates additional funding to the athletic department.

Auburn was at the bottom of the SEC before hiring Pearl. Now they're towards the top in terms of revenue. A good hire and a winning season would probably boost LSU's basketball revenue by $5-8mm easily. (Judging based on LSU revenue vs SEC peers.)
quote:

Do I think he's a great coach? Hell no, he's dull, lackluster and times, and struggles with the X's and O's of the game.

But do I think he needs to start flipping burgers if we lose on Saturday? Hell no, we lost our best player, which is the reason we are 0-4 in SEC play. The drop-off from DJ to Reece is huge and has showed big time in our 4 SEC games (esp @ A&M). With DJ, we are 3-1 in conference. Let's calm down on the McMahon banter and see if this team looks any different with his guy before we go after his neck.

He's got a $7mm parachute; time to cut him loose for everyone's benefit.

The "what if" game is meaningless at this point. When you're on the hot seat, the only thing that matters is wins and losses; and LSU has yet to win an SEC game.

Remember; LSU lost by double digits AT HOME a week ago vs South Carolina (1-3).

There is a real chance that LSU doesn't win an SEC game this season.

Former NBA player Antonio Blakeney was named but not charged in the indictment. The indictment describes Blakeney as being "charged elsewhere."

I'd be begging to be charged and sent back to the US if I was being charged "elsewhere" after fixing Chinese Basketball Association games.
I wonder how much that 28% jump is fraud with scammers farming student aid using fake AI students + stolen info.

LSU wouldn't be able to keep up with the new season ticket requests.
That explains why the ref basically stands 3 feet away and doesn't look at the feet.
quote:

You sure about that. I thought it was 2 terms for mayor

Gotcha. I asked AI and it said 3. See now that's wrong.

Their 1st term always looks like they are working for the people. The second term is when the fraud and inside deals take place.

NOLA mayors get 3 terms.
Gotta get in line behind Men's Soccer, Wrestling, Lacrosse, and Rugby.

A former 5* RS-Freshman without a ton of baggage would be a massive get. Hope LSU can close here.

Is LSU still pursuing Longstreet? Saw somewhere that he is okay with being a backup QB this year.
