most teachers work 3 or 4 extra jobs to make ends meet whether it be summer school, extra partime work etc.

I know about 50 or so teachers. One of them had a part time job at a clothing store and worked once a week in order to get discounts.

In other states maybe where economy is much higher and cost of living is greater....those stats are not even close to Louisiana stats...ask any teacher in la.

The biggest factor in learning is student, not teacher.

Technology will make quality of teacher even less important in the near future

A public school teacher in La. will never retire making even close to 60k...maybe 55k with 30 yrs ,maybe....

Again...these are the median salaries.

Average Teaching Salary Louisiana

Louisiana Public School Teacher Salaries

BTW...since you decided to narrow it down to Louisiana...the average annual wage for a worker in the state of Louisiana is $41,260. So teachers work 25% less time and still make more money than the average Louisiana worker.

As an Illinois teacher, you contribute 9.4% of your monthly salary to a defined benefit plan that provides lifetime retirement benefits for you and your fellow teachers. Upon reaching normal retirement age and terminating your employment, you’re eligible to receive monthly pension benefits.

In Illinois, you may receive full benefits if you’re 67 years old with 10 years of service credit, or reduced benefits at 62 years old with 10 years of service credit.

The exact percentages in the formula are subject to change, but current teachers factor their retirement benefits using the following: Years of Service (percentage) multiplied by Average Yearly Salary The legislature awards 2.2 percentage points for each year of service, up to a maximum of 75%. You receive this figure in monthly benefit payments each year. So, for example, if you worked for 30 years, this would figure into 66% of your average yearly salary. If you terminated employment with an average salary of $55,000, you would earn a monthly retirement benefit of $3,025.

It has come to my attention that the benefits are even better than I was aware.

Of the 9.4% teachers contribute toward their entirement, the district (ie, me and my fellow taxpayers) pays 7% (so teachers contribute 2.4%.)

On the pension, Illinois teachers have a guaranteed 3% cost of living increase, regardless of the performance of the economy. So by year 20 of my example, that teacher would be taking in $95,000 a year in pension payments.

So for 2.4% of their pay, a teacher who starts their pension at $46k and lives 30 years will collect well over $2 million in pension payments.

It's fricking mind boggling. Decades of shitty politicians pandering to the unions is what it is, and it's not just teachers up here. It's basically all public employees. I believe bus drivers retire with a pension that pays 75% of their salary at retirement (again with guaranteed COL increases).

you realize that most schools split the duty of one student between 6 or 7 teachers right? so i guess take ur math and divide it by 7

According to teacherportal.com...Louisiana teacher's average salary is just over $51,000 per year. That puts them 24th in a ranking of states by average teacher salary.

Ranking average of states by average teacher salary

I understand that you feel that teachers make significantly less than this...but these websites where actual data has been compiled show otherwise.

Data is typically more reliable than feelings.

To be fair most of those numbers are skewed by coaches salaries and administration. A 1st year assistant football coach will often make as much as a 20 year teacher with a only a BSE. And benefits vary greatly by district. More rural districts often have pretty poor benefit packages.

Not this teacher's union shite again.

Look according to most of my social media teachers drink wine 8 hours a day, can't wait for summer, spend three months on the beach, and bitch about it all incessantly.

If you don't like it get another job.

If you are going to be a teacher, you know the risks, and pay involved in the chosen field. Don't bitch to me about how much you get paid for something you willingly do. Don't feed me the line of bullshite about you are doing it for the kids, or how influential you are in my kids life. If the pay is that shitty to you, then move on and find a higher paying career.

A guy who cannot put a solid, logic-based, factually supported argument together, and has a poor grasp of grammar and the English language, made 126k last year? I want to do what you do.

What would you say it is you do, exactly?

I'll disagree with that, however, we will never find a middle ground so I will end it as well.
