Wrigley is a great time and Wrigleyville is generally pretty fun during the season. It's lost a lot of its charm, though. Has completely turned into a small version of Nashville.
Sheffields (start here for the great beer list), Sluggers, Bernie's, Murphy's FTW. Keep it old school :pimp:

Following and appreciate all this information as well, we plan to go towards the middle/end of June for about 4-5 days in Chicago (River North), Cubs game, drinking and eating around the area, then Amtrak to Milwaukee for about 4 days, Brewers game and eating drinking, Summerfest for a day then Amtrak back to Chicago for a day then fly back out of O'Hare.
From everything is read we should be able to use public transportation for everything except the Amtrak. Blue Line from O'Hare to downtown, Redline to Wrigley Field, area is safe and walkable.
That's a great trip. You'll like the stadium and tailgate experience at Miller Park (it'll always be Miller to me). Definitely tailgate at the park for that game.

Love Park City. Short 45 minute drive from SLC. You can basically ski right into downtown. No Name Saloon and High West are great. The skiing is also awesome. No real great breweries in town (though there are one or two) but the liquor laws are strict.

And I continue to think its weird how you keep saying "illegals", when they are not "illegal" if they join our military. That is the "proper channels" that everyone wants.
Many in this thread have said already that "if you served and were honorably discharged you should get citizenship"...with that suggestion including any illegals who found their way in.
Please don't make me quote them all because there's a bunch (one of them is quoted in the post above).

I was simply laughing at your post about how its always been this very thought out "strategic" process.
So you're suggesting it wasn't thought out and done for strategic reasons during the Civil War?
quote:
Anymore dishonest framing you want to lob my way?
You brought up the civil war, not me. That was your only attempt to show that illegals and citizens of other countries had a "long history" of serving en masse in the US military.

Easily.
Naturalization Through Military Service
you have to fulfill either section 328 or 329 to even apply for naturalization
And those include:
quote:
Status: Must be a Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) at the time of the interview.
or
quote:
Status: Must have been lawfully admitted as a permanent resident at any time after enlistment, or was physically present in the U.S. at the time of enlistment/reenlistment.
Then you have the actual naturalization process which has it's own quite lengthy list of requirements.
So a far cry and far more stringent than any illegals or citizens from other countries only being required to "serve honorably", as has been said many times in this thread already.

they were literally handing them rifles straight off the boat in the Civil War
So you're suggesting because the environment and situation made sense in the Civil War 165 years ago, we should do it now, in today's situation and environment?

but its been a path to citizenship for a long time
Can you post a link that details this practice of non-US citizens joining our military and then becoming citizens following their service?

long time US practice
The long time US practice is not what is being discussed here. That's the apples to oranges comparison I pointed out that that you fail to acknowledge. The people and program you're referencing were known to not be US citizens when we recruited them, and they were recruited for very specific reasons that gave our military a distinct advantage.
What is being discussed here is illegals and or citizens of other countries in our rank and file military and giving them citizenship for doing so.

He then clarified the post about that being an oversimplification.
This was the clarification:

The recruiters on the ground would be more selective in the process that I outlined.
I still disagree and do not want our rank and file military comprised of non-US citizens whose sole motivation for being essentially a mercenary is access to the US and its resources in a few years.

not really
If you don't see the difference between a bunch of third world foot soldiers and strategically recruited and leveraged foreign nationals, then I can't help.

yes

Go to the US embassy or military base in their country. Say, "I want to be in the Army, Navy, Air Force Marines." The two parties work up a contract if they can meet the requirements (Physically fit. Of service age 17-42. They can speak English. And can obtain a SSN and a green card). They come to the US for basic training. Complete their service. Become a Citizen.

I'm talking about people wiling to give their life to fight for this country. If they're willing to do that, then we should have a path to citizenship for them.
I still respectfully disagree. I don't want a bunch of Venezuelans and Hondurans in the US military simply so they can have full access to this country and its resources in a few years.

it’s been a US policy to grant citizenship to foreign nationals that have served honorably in the military,
Ok, but there's a huge difference between foreign nationals that we need/recruit for specific purposes and saying that anyone who meets a few physical standards from just about any country can just join our military and become a citizen. Total apples to oranges comparison.

That path should be petition for citizenship through the regular channels and see how it goes.
If anyone on the left thinks this is some sort of gotcha, it isn't, because this guy shouldn't have been voting either...I don't care who he voted for. He's just exposed another area we need to look to close any loopholes.

The fact that you and so many apparently would be fine with our military being populated with, and it's intelligence and methods being available to, a bunch of third world dudes whose only tie to this country is wanting to come here for stuff is wild to me. Down vote away, but in my opinion that's a horrendous idea.

19th out of 30 teams last season for their home games. May be time to put that little self glossed moniker to bed. Most of the games I saw there weren't a fraction of that 28k avg in the seats at any point in the game.

The St. Louis Cardinals experienced a historic, two-season attendance decline in 2025, averaging roughly 27,778 fans per game—the lowest since 1995 (excluding the 2020 pandemic). Total attendance dropped to 2.25 million, a 21.8% decline from 2024, resulting in over 600,000 fewer tickets sold, as fans reacted to a third consecutive year without a postseason appearance.
It's easy to be a "best fan" when your team is making the playoffs
