Bumping for an update.

Went to my ENT today, and my hearing is worse, so is my tinnitus. They offered me BTE Phonak Audeo V hearing aids and said it would help with my hearing for sure, and I would likely see a positive change in my tinnitus.

I have a bit of sticker shock though. For the mid grade, $4400, and for the premium $5400, that includes a 3 year warranty.

For the audiologists in the lounge, what is the consensus on those you can get at Costco or Sams? I would prefer to pay $2000 or less if the quality isn't that different, at least for my first pair to try, if that might make sense.

I would tell you about hearing aids but it would probably fall on deaf ears.

My dad has hearing aids. They're an improvement, because years of hunting without ear protection has left him nearly deaf. But He doesn't have superhuman hearing now, just better than he was. I still have to speak distinctly to him, preferably while looking him straight in the face.

It will probably take several tries to get them adjusted right, so don't get frustrated if they're not perfect right out of the gate. Also, you may find yourself taking them out to talk on the phone, because feedback can be bad. So remember to put them back in. They're damned easy to forget about and lose. In fact, you should consider getting insurance for them just like any other expensive personal item.

Just turned 60 and got my first pair a few weeks ago. Have suffered with hearing loss for my entire life. I went with the Resound Linx. Bluetooth syncs with iPhone. Total control with iPhone app. Frankly for me it's fantastic. I'm hearing sounds I didn't know existed. Definitely not the budget brand, but at this stage of my life and career, the hearing loss was becoming more problematic. Couldn't be happier.

That's great to know. I'm leaning towards the ones from Sams Club as a "trial" set, then looking for someone better for my next set.
