Can someone please point me to the high culture places in JP?

I find it funny how people from JP(I am from JP) bash the NS for not having culture, which I agree with, but when challenged on it, they refer back to NO.

Going to them.

I live in STP now, and probably wouldn't waste my money sending my kid to private school here.
I don't know much about Covington's k-8 schools, but CHS is no place for a kid from a good family to attend. Its academics are weak and atmosphere is more inner-city than white suburbia.

Just get in your car and drive 15 minutes to New Orleans. It's a shorter drive than the Causeway.

I think Mandeville and Covington both suck compared to the Southshore. If you want suburban living, just live in Metairie. You get everything Mandeville and Covington have to offer except you're just minutes from the city. You can try to rationalize it all you want, but when you boil it down...the entire Northshore is a very boring place to live.

Guess it depends on what stage of life you are in. The Northshore draw is schools that don't cost more than college tuition, for many at least.

So we agree there is no culture in JP as well.

Please re-read my posts. I never at any time said JP had culture. JP is a suburb, like Covington. The difference is that it is closer to New Orleans, which makes it better in my opinion. That's all I've ever said.

I think it's about perspective. Did you ever attend a real inner city school?

My kid had a problem at school today. What would have taken me 3 months, legal threats, and 5 meetings to resolve before took one phone call to the principal. And my son came home with a smile on his face.

Every suburb and most cities will be boring compared to Nola. But 90% of us just drink and watch TV so the boringness concerns are overblown. Makes us feel like we're interesting I guess.

This I can absolutely agree with. I've lived here a year, and every friend I have made is also a transplant and we have frequent discussions about how closed off people are here.

It was crazy. Wife and I did several thing to get involved in the community and, frankly, the people from there were just assholes. If you are not already in the clique, forget about ever feeling like you belong there.

I've lived in 5 cities in 3 states and Covington is by far the worst. It was so bad, my wife refuses to ever move back to Louisiana.

We aren't big chain people but we end up at the chains because apparently Mandeville goes to bed at 10 pm on a Saturday. That's boring.

Not true. Hit up The Green Room and eat some Babaganoush gyros outside while jamming to some live music.

Of course not. All I'm saying is it makes no sense to move to Covington for public schools. They aren't good, at all. If you need good public schools, Mandeville and even Slidell are better options.

At least we had good drugs and white women at Mandeville.

True and wouldn't change it.

You're using Ricky as an example of one of the few good restaurants in Covington? Or are you using Boule? Listen to the writing, you don't belong here

It is a shame about Thai by Ricki. I bet the Angola prison food has improved though.

You're right. I don't belong there, nor do I want to.

Best decision I ever made was getting the hell out of that white trash cesspool.

Spot on. It is VERY cliquish. My SO and I went to dinner the other night and we're talking about the only thing that is missing here is friends. All of our friends live elsewhere and everyone here has been so standoffish. I don't get it. And all of the friends I have made (other transplants) say the same. One has been here 10 yrs and still hasn't met anyone from here that wasn't like that.

That's kind of like saying "The best decision I ever made was leaving that party at which no one talked to me." You made the right choice for all of us.
