What people consider a soul is just something that a more complicated mind exhibits.
The smarter the animal, then the more likely it is to have soul like attributes. The cuter it is, the more likely we will relate to it.

When I’m having a rough time at work or not even stressed, just focused on something for a long arse time, my cat sneaks over, stretches up and I swear to God he hugs me. I’ve had cats my entire life and I’ve never seen a cat do what this one does. He’s a stray I picked up as a flea infested, half starved kitten about 18 months ago.
Non cat owners won’t understand the love, affection, and bond that a cat gives its owner. Cats act different when others are around so it’s never apparent to guest. A cat is naturally very wary of strangers so when it trust you fully, it’s an entire different animal.
