Wicker is a neocon war lover so anything he says is worth nothing.

China has drone capabilities that even Ukraine/Russia do not regularly confront.

It’s a dangerous world out there…love God and others as all the rest is just white noise.

It’s not the drones it’s the batteries for the drones… success of drones is tied directly to battery life.

Look at Amprius Technologies. They are leading the way in the “super” battery market

Yep. The Russians copy, and adapt to Ukraine innovation. But Russia is second fiddle to Ukraine in drones. The US is very far behind.

I bet we dont make the best bow and arrow either.

Yes it’s extremely important that we create the perfect human killing drone before AI takes control so it’s easier for it to hunt down and kill the survivors

Maybe, maybe not. These types of acts aren’t always about what’s cheapest and easiest

I can't wait for nano-drones that fly into your nose and kill you.

I’d bet those already exist and have already been used.

As soon as I saw drones I knew one day they'll be the bane of society.

Any time man has done something positive, some SOB will figure out a way to weaponize it.

Car? Let's turn it into a tank.
Plane? Let's drop bombs from it.
Rocket? Let's put a nuclear bomb on it.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm sure one day we'll see a drone strapped with a bomb flown into a stadium.

There was a report by someone who went to Ukraine and was a drone operator. Most of their kills were abandoned armor, and artillery. It was 20% effective on a good day.

Drones are definitely a tool for the war tool box but nothing like what Elon thinks it is.

I'm not the biggest fan of Elon's but he's 100% right on this.

I think they will become way more powerful with time as people develop ai applications to run it and make decisions, but for war purposes. Or do things like work together as a group. Look at some of the cool arse shite that China is doing with drones making them look like a fireworks type show and shite. Now imagine what they could do if they wanted to attack the White House with about 10000 publicly available drones that they have designed to be hacked.

Ukraine is using drone by string so radio waves can't be blocked vert limited distances. All this talk about drones and yall forget we can knock out electronics on anything we want

String = fiber optics in this case. It is trickle-down from 2-generation-old anti-tank platforms.

Our drones will be more expensive and work toward one shot one kill vs the Chinese likely approach of lots of cheap drones to overwhelm the anti-drone grid. Both can be effective but the former is easier to make into a more destructive single package ie more shite that goes boom per drone.

Jamming can be used against the low(ish) tech drones being used in the Russo-Ukrainian war, thus the fiber optics being utilized but we will likely pursure more sophisticated drones. I expect our full on entry to the low level drone world will use multiple guidance systems to make jamming and GPS spoofing useless as they just switch to a different system. There is IR homing, inertial guidance, GPS, active radar, terrain contour mapping, and digital scene matching area correlation. This controlled by AI could make electronic warfare ineffective against them and leave only physical interception with things like munitions and focused energy weapons.

We have gained an invaluable amount of practical intelligence, especially given our tight intelligence relationship with Ukraine over the majority of the war. War is a hardware and tactics crucible that proving grounds and exercises can never match. We need to glean every bit of knowledge we can from this war as the Chinese will be doing from Russia. Sooner or later, drone warfare will reach a dynamic equilibrium between offense and defense. Currently, offense has the advantage and is producing a paradigm shift in tactics we need to ensure we gain and keep an advantage.

The US did that almost a decade ago for military trials. Great for recon but artillery is still king of the battlefield and one shell is more bang for the buck.

Quad 50 cal would be murderous to drones. WWII technology right there. While airframes are easily susceptible to drones on the ground, hard targets not as much as advertised. Pipes, valves and pumps can be patched in refineries. For process equipment with seismic zone pressure rating not so much at atl. Old Soviet refining process equipment is double the substandard steel though poor joint efficiencies in the welds, wouldn't be damaged hardly at all. I don't see the big impact on refining capacity as much as I see things just wearing out. Process units in refineries usually have a turnaround at least ever 2 years downstream of the crude unit. Piping wears out in spots, valve seats get eroded and general wear and tear happens just from use. The big thing is whether are not they are having to make their own catalysts rather than companies like BASF, Haldor Topsoe, Axens and Criterion. All of which are in the West.

China has drones the size of mosquitoes and all we have is a supply line directly to Ukraine. fricking disgusting and anti American.

A lot of speculation that I’ve seen about the 6th gen fighter is that it will be a manned fighter that comes with an arsenal of drones that it can control.
