Are there really so many people on the OT who have no idea what carolers are? Do you live under a rock? Are you just miserable people who hate joy and tradition?

Scoping out your house OP haha

So you're supposed to tip people coming to your door singing carols? Sounds like musical panhandling.
According to the board you are suppose to. All I did was answer the door, these three kids started singing "we wish you a merry christmas", I listened with the door barely opened I didn't want to let the dog out. After they finished I said "same to yall" and closed the door. Because I did this the OT thinks I am a horrible, miserable person who hates life.

Did any of the kids correct your grammar?

Meh, I don't really like strangers selling or singing at my door either. I would've given them lots of cheerful compliments only bc they were children, maybe candy if I had it...and no money. There are other ways to be charitable at Christmas. If they looked dirty, their mother might be using them to get cash for drugs. Don't beat yourself up too much.

That's awfully specific

I hate Christmas panderers. Someone who expects a tip/gift is undeserving. This idea that I should spend $1000 at Christmas tipping every person I come into contact with is outrageous.

I'm nothing if not thorough.

I know you are physically disabled
but you could have tried to give them something man.
Im not going to respond as an a-hole to you because it isn't worth the energy, but you know better.
you didn't even have any candy around the house or anything?

That's the problem.. Months ago there was some strange guy going around knocking on doors saying he was going on some type of mission trip and needed donations. People called the police right away and it ended up being 3 different guys, each one in a different neighborhood, telling the same story.
Its one thing if it was a group of carolers.. a few having on something Christmas related.. And they are going around singing, but 3 kids out of nowhere, who do not live in the area.. knocking on doors, singing a song then looking at you as if they are expecting you to give them something.. That's different. If I would have posted that these kids came to my house and I gave them each $5 and invited them in for milk and cookies this place would talk about how dumb I would be to give random kids money, milk and cookies just because they were singing a Christmas song.

This is the most true statement made on any post in any thread today.

Bruh. Where the hell do you live? No one ever knocks on my door. Not even the UPS man. He just rings the bell and leaves the box.

You are supposed to show them general human regard. Traditionally you are supposed to offer them cookies. How do you people not know this?

You couldn't give some poor kids a buck apiece? What a loser. I wished those kids would have beat your sorry arse.

I've never had a reason to look this up before but this is what I found so I think you were well within the framework of these suggestions:
Don't Expect a Reward or Donation
Singing Christmas carols should be an act of goodwill. Never expect anything in return. After all, you're there to spread goodwill, not beg.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't, right? I learned pretty quickly the OT is predictably harsh when asked for opinion. It's still fun though.
