Rising costs happen because government creates money out of nothing, and encourages instability on a global level. It doesn’t just “happen” to a pizza place.

It usually doesn’t go to the employees btw. The company just keeps it and gives them “bonuses” like employee parties and shite. So that “deal” was negated by your “tip”

Rarely (if ever) am I tipping anyone before service is completed. If the service provided warranties a gratuity IMO, I'll drop a few bucks.

So, a piece of paper and a screen showed you a tip line and you made the choice not to tip?
So what is the fricking problem? You declined. No one "asked" you to tip. You just chose to not put a tip on the line which is your right. Now you come here to bitch about it?

The expectation of a tip can most assuredly lead to sacrificed experience so it becomes a judgment call and more of a character assesment rather than rewarding someone for a job well done.
Will this person screw up my order (or worse) if I don't tip up front?
The tipping culture is out of control and putting undue pressure on the consumer. Business owners and management should do things to remove themselves from the bullshite because it's pissing people off for sure.

Bought some ice at a country store and the lady handed me a screen to sign and it wanted to know how much tip I wanted to give.
For a bag of ice.

I tip $1 per pizza when I carry out those $8 pan pizzas from Dominos.
I might up it to $2. My store has good workers w good attitudes. After a decade dealing with 27 year old brats in Denver, people up the hill are just so much nicer to deal and interact with.

Nothing like getting the stink eye at Subway when you hit “0” on the tip screen.

Why can’t grown adults on this board figure out when and when not to tip?
Because most that post in these threads are one broken refrigerator bill from being on the other side of the counter handing the food to the customer and, they are threatened, insecure and question their own masculinity.

If you order carry out from a real, sit down restaurant then you should 5% tip. It takes a lot to package it up and make sure everything is correct.
0% for all fast food style carry out. 0% for anything in a drive thru. 0% for coffee bars. 0% for ordering in a standup or line style operation.

I agree, the tipping culture is totally out of control and I actually enjoy writing a zero on the line. However, when we order carry out at our pizza place, the guy genuinely seems to go out of his way saving me money with a coupon that I didn't know even existed. Whenever he saves me money, I'll split the difference with him as a tip.
It's funny when I order, I know exactly what I want and the order is short and to the point and the guy always finds a coupon. When my wife orders, she calls the pizza place and THEN asks everyone what they want so she's on the phone for like 10 mins. She never gets a deal. We can order the same exact thing but it's always at least $10 more when my wife calls.

Just had my furnace serviced for the upcoming winter. Invoice was emailed and had a 15% tip selected as default. $125 for <30 minutes work plus tip? Shits gone too far...

problem is its these stupid processing companies who's systems are all created with a tip link and printout.
they never use to do this so it makes you feel obligated.
I tip if it's a big takeout, but pizza, burgers, wings, no. reason why, you get home, you dont know how the "service" was really performed.
Sitting down eating, you know what service you receive which results in the tip.
