Think of it like a ride at an amusement park . Take it like its a fun experience you normally don't get to do.

I fly a ton with my job, but I do remember being nervous about flying when I first started. Some good advice someone gave me was to find someone close to your seat that is obviously a frequent flyer and, if you get nervous with anything, look at them. They will probably be reading the paper or using their tablet/smartphone/etc.
If they don't look worried, there is no reason to worry.

Righto
The seating area near the wings will feel the smoothest during turbulence, avoid the back and try not to sit next to toilets, keep hydrated, Chewing gum helps with ear popping.

I try to concentrate on the fun that awaits at the end of the flight. I'm usually going on vacation.

Just go in the bathroom and enjoy a smoke. It will help with your nerves.

I fly about 200k a year on US airplanes and 50k a year on foreign airlines, and used to be very nervous.
So to get over the fear, I flew United a lot and they had Channel 9 which was the communication between the pilot and ATC. After listening to the pilots again and again, it becomes so obvious how professional and in good hands you are.
Now when I hit a local Indian airline or something similar, I just pray that I am not in one of those random "2 Americans Die in Indian Crash" type stories
