New Orleans, for how small of a town it is, puts out some incredible, unique food. The classic restaurants of Emeril, Prudhomme (RIP) are always a treat as are the "new blood" of Link, Besh, Spicer (and many others).

The fact that we are even arguing about the validity of New frickING Orleans as a food destination blows me away! Be butthurt or just admit that you are sick of a city because everybody's home town sucks to them at some point in there life, or maybe you've just eaten at so many of these places so many times you are sick of them? But to say NOLA sucks for food is just inaccurate. Vegas sucks for gambling too I guess? Rather Tahoe?

That's why you could get a room pretty close to Mardi Gras for a reasonable rate.

The Expressway Holiday Inn is a solid hotel. You just don't walk to it from the freaking ferry.

I have plenty of negative things to say about New Orleans (plenty of positive ones too), but anyone saying the New Orleans culinary scene is anything but at a top tier level is kidding themselves or doesn't know where to go. It's just about the only thing New Orleans does right.

Edit and slight hijack: anyone else read "Hungry Town" about the history of the NOLA culinary scene? It's an interesting read.

Also proves another point......you...don't...live...here. Keep reading articles about the same retards who commit the crimes. They won't stop. Nothing has happened to me or anyone I know. If you live here you navigate a certain way. Family has been here for years no one robbed or mugged lol. How about when someone ventures down here, Dont go to the bad parts of town. You don't visit Chicago and go to the southside right? Nah.

That's a bad example. The good thing about the crime in Chicago is that it's mostly limited to the South Side. In New Orleans it's too easy for someone unfamiliar with the city to go from a really nice neighborhood to a really poor one. You have to be trying to get to the south side to wind up there.

Pretty sure he meant the thinly veiled racism, but go ahead and pretend that isn't the case.

The city is starting down the barrel of suffering the same fate as Detroit and they're getting close to it.
You obviously haven't been to New Orleans in the past five years. Gentrification may be slowing down but it's still happening. You can hardly find a house here for under 100k even in the hood. Hell, some houses in the 7th Ward are going for over $150/sq ft. It doesn't make sense but people with money are still moving here and property values continue to increase.
