You guys are over exaggerating just a little bit here. They have to have pretty good stamina but to say they have to be in top physical shape to be good is a little much.
One of my best friends in high school went Pro at 16-17 and he wasn’t in great shape. Could prob run a 25-30 minute 5k.
shite I’ve even hung out with Ricky Carmichael a couple of times and that dude didn’t seem to be super athletic
I will admit my knowledge is limited, but from what I can tell I would never be comparing their type of workout regimen, endurance, etc to world class athletes or astronauts

Old frick here watching on DVR. Evel was the man back in late 60’s-mid 70’s. I think Mr. Pastrana honered him well. Jumping on the heavy and under powered Triumphs and Harleys was a death wish. Hardly any suspension travel...maybe 4” at best? The man had brass balls the size of King Kong. He knew he wouldn’t make that UK bus jump but did it anyway because he said he would try.

Just stop. Google before you just make stuff up next time.

Have you ever ridden a motorcycle, much less raced one? Pretty sure we know the answer already.

First, I'm going to say you're completely full of shite and you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
I grew up racing. My kid now races. We know and train with quite a few of the very top amateurs and a few current pros that race supercross and the outdoors.
To sum up their physical conditioning, soccer is the only sport that comes close. Motocross has been scientifically proven to be the most physically demanding sport there is.
They are currently running the outdoor series. For a single race day, they run 2 races that are 30 minutes plus 2 more laps. That's generally in the 35-37 minute range for a single race. For those 35 minutes they maintain a heart rate of over 180 BPM and sometimes spiking at over 200 BMP.
Just the physical movements made on a bike is more than the average person can withstand. The constant standing and sitting while controlling the bike with your legs takes a ton of stamina. They say on average, a rider does 40 to 50 squats per lap. That times roughly 17 laps for a single race is over 700 squats. Then you get a 1 hour break and have to do it again.
You watch the top level pros and the pull off the track and immediately do and interview, and they aren't even winded.
The training regimen is absolutely brutal. The training facility my kid goes to does strength training from 8am to 10am. Then it's out to the track, they work on technique from 10:30ish until noon. Then back on the track for 3 30 minute motos. With 30 minute breaks between. Then back to the gym until 5:00 for cardio. We only do this once a month, there are several people who live at the facility and do this routine 4-5 days per week and race on the weekend.
The training is so intense that they really don't have a life outside of it. There's just no time, there's certainly no partying or it's extremely rare.
My kid is only 10 and I'd bet he works harder than the majority of the people on this board. He's on the bike 2-3 days a week, crossfit 2 days a week, runs daily, and once per month with the trainer. We just got home from Missouri where he spent 3 days working with some of the top trainers in the world. It was 5 hours of riding per day.
And to say RC didn't seem like he was in that good of shape
RC single handedly changed this sport with his insane drive and work ethic. He didn't have quite the natural talent that McGrath or Windham had, he beat them by outworking them. Ricky will tell you that to your face, I've seen him do it. Post retirement, yes he's put on some weight. They all do, no one wants to keep training like that.
I don't expect everyone to know or understand the level or work or commitment it takes to even be good locally in this sport. It's a small niche sport and the people not involved don't see the work that goes on behind the scenes. The top guys do make it look easy because they know how to make the bike work for them. It becomes very smooth and fluid in appearance, but the reality is it's like wrestling a bull the entire time.

I 100% have never ridden a motorcycle. Like I said. My knowledge is limited. But my best friend in high school went pro after rolling through amateur circuits like it wasn’t nothing. And we worked out together. He was in no way a top athlete. I’m not saying he didn’t work hard and didn’t practice all the time. But I’m just saying in terms of physical strength/endurance and all that he wasn’t some great athlete. And it’s funny one of you bring up soccer because we played varsity soccer together as well lol.
And I did hang out with Ricky Carmichael after he retired. And he was pudgy af Lol

Again, Google is your friend.

What exactly should I be googling? I googled what he looked like before he retired and he doesn’t look athletic. But looks can be deceiving so idk what you’re wanting here
