Hanna has looked the part more than any other storm this season IIRC.

No question, actually looks like a proper tropical system.

Apparently they are helping in a search and rescue situation right now why the plane has never went into the center.

Need a gif of that. Stone Cold and Gull attacks as the official gifs of the hurricane thread.

72 kts flight level, 45 kts surface estimate.

Probably call it 60 mph based on that.

993-992 mb first pass.

This anemometer is about 390 feet above the surface, but winds are really ramping up to nearly hurricane force gusts. It is about 40 miles NNE of the center right now.

Pretty crazy 3 days ago most models didn't even have this becoming a tropical storm. Now it's gonna most likely be a hurricane. Weather is crazy like that.

I'm buzzed, but not high, so I hope I get this point across clearly enough - I believe we'll see accurate weather predictions months into the future in our lifetime. The weather is a pretty straightforward beast, we just don't have accurate enough readings worldwide to let computers do their magic. I think computers will continue to get better (bold, I know), but we'll also get far more accurate global instantaneous data over time.

Imagine how useful that kind of thing would be, except for beach lessors of course.

We are down in Mexico on vacation and a hurricane is about to hit our house. Hopefully, everything is fine.

We'd need a lot of data from all over the world, including over the oceans and enough computing power to not make assumptions concerning things like friction.

Depends on how long you're planning to live I suppose but it's going to take a long time to get weather accurate at the month scale.

I bet we get pretty fricking good at the ten day range though.
