I don't really actually like the taste of beer, but I do like how it improves my bowling and golf game. Up to a point.
I used to work for a company that had a golf tournament sponsored by A-B. Beer issued to you, and they drove around to refill you. We played in the scramble, and we posted amazing scores for the first several holes. By the 10th hole, we were helping one of the guys get his cart out of the lake. I wish I was joking.

My Ex-FIL owned a package store in the 70's and 80's in New Braunfels. The germans in the area preferred room temp beer as that's what they knew best. He used to make weekly runs to Shiner to pick up all the cases he could haul back to his store and would sell out consistently. They were very loyal to the Spoetzl due to the founder he said. Always ambient temp they demanded, never cooled. Interesting culture.

Many are at cellar temperature, not warm. Those definitely are not refrigerated, though.

The traditional pubs serve their ales warmer but there are plenty of lagers and pilsners such as heneiken, peroni, carlsberg and even budweiser which I think I read is the number 1 selling beer in the uk, that are served cold. But most of the year in the uk is cold and wet so they don't need an ice cold beverage most of the time.

Stouts and porters are good room temp. Imperials and DIPAs are pretty good too at room temp. Doppelbock, barleywine, some higher end malt liquor can be good at room temp... Anything else needs to be chilled. Light beers need to be damn near frozen to be drinkable... But they are some of the best when heat index is 110.

they're not warm, more like room temperature. And some beers are better that way. if it's a quality ale, then it still tastes great at room temperature. if its Natty Lite, then yeah, it sucks warm and sucks slightly less cold.

I always see the IPA crowd comparing "regular" beer to piss.
IPA's are what I imagine piss taste like. I don't get why American's have a love affair with over hopped beer.

The amount of flavor diversity in "IPAs) is what I like. Some are absolute trash and some are good. Session IPAs are like drinking carbonated water mixed with piss and dry grass. Lagunitas or Traffic are my go to IPAs. I like the Sierra Nevada DIPA. Dos Equis green, and Busch for outdoor heat. Sometimes I'll get a shiner. I almost bought some Southern Pecan today but went with voodoo ranger. Had tough time deciding today. Wanted to go downtown to try a new steam beer. Which I didn't know that style was invented din the USA. That was too far out of my way though.

...they serve you warm beers there...
wrong....
Draft ales and "bitters" are served cool... not ice cold. My local bitter was Boddingtons...

On draught in the United Kingdom it is typically served at 5 to 7 degrees Celsius (41-44F)
Re. ice or lack thereof...
As a kid, I will always remember asking for a coke with ice and getting 2 ice cubes....

This is always interesting. How often have you tasted piss?
Makes no sense at all, but always shows up in beer discussions.

In Europe, room temp beer has always been standard, but you see more refrigeration taking root. They normally don't put (or very little) ice in soft drinks or water.
In the height of my drinking days, late 80s/early 90s, I often drank cheap beer at room temp, once you get used to it, it's not bad.

My grandpa was born in 1888,died in 1970.He always kept his beer in pantry and drank it room temperature. He said there was no such thing as cold beer when he was young ,room temperature was normal to him.

I like some IPAs, but the obsession with them in the states is silly. I guess there's a lot of people who don't really like beer in general or appreciate different styles based on the lack of variety I see at stores and restaurants these days. These folks just want to taste as much hops as they can and don't understand what balance is. Or appreciate variety.
Cask ales, the real ones, and most ales in general are best at temps above the 30s. Usually mid 50s but it depends on the style for the optimum temp. Places that advertise beer at 32 degrees are stupid, you can't taste things that numb your tongue. I guess they serve mostly stuff you don't want to taste anyway.

what is your criteria for ‘piss beer’?
Most of the crap brewed by the American big time companies and ALL of the so called "light" beers.

I'd wager a lot of guys here know what that rolling around in the floor board or bed of truck beer tastes like. It's not bad or that big if a deal. A no paint White Can is good cold but not bad warm. In fact, I would rather have a room temp beer from the crack than an ice cold one that warmed up. The fishing boat beer that has warmed from cold sucks. Starting warm tastes better to me.

Growing up, we called beer that got cold/hot/cold, green beer.

People that have a hissy fit about drinking a Miller Lite are just as bad as the people who act like all craft beers are poison. Just drink the damn beer
