I had umbilical hernia surgery about 2 years ago. They did robotic surgery with mesh repair on me. They did saddle block and that was a God send to get me through the first 24 hours. After 24 hours you find out how hard it is to get up and down.
Prepare everything in the house beforehand for easy access because getting up and down from a chair or the bed is going to hurt like a mofo.
It takes several days before you get back to "normal". You can't lift anything over 5 lbs for at least a month.
They will want you to get back to normal life as soon as possible. You'll need to get up and walk several times a day to help keep swelling and fluid down. Do everything they tell you and follow instructions to the letter and you'll fully recover with no problems.

I had one fixed and an infected ingrown hair removed from my belly button. spent a week holding a pillow to my gut. no lifting, trying not to cough or sneeze. no poop straining lol.
was slow going, but after a week it was fine. pain was not bad. i ended up not using any of the pain meds prescribed.
funny thing - apparently I had always had one, but didn't know till I lost 170 pounds. apparently my fat held everything in place lol.

Had the robotic surgery yesterday. I am sore (think soreness after doing a ton of sit ups). Have not needed any pain med, even OTC. Weird getting used to not lifting much for four weeks.

Same here. We might have been neighbors at the center.

Just had hernia (groin area) surgery several months ago. Worst part about the surgery was the anesthesia which made me very nauseous afterwards. I was a little sore for the first week, nothing I couldn't handle. Never took no pain medication except for Advil. I was back at work two weeks after surgery.

as long as I don't cough or sneeze I'm good. I'm at work, and I'm interested to see how long I last before I wear out today.
No pain killers at all so far. I hope you are in the same boat (or narc'd up where you don't care LOL)

It was a simple procedure. Get it done and over with. I put it off and was having pain like you. Should have done it sooner
Coming out of anesthesia, for whatever reason I wanted Burger King. I kept repeating it. When I was released my surgeon told my wife go get that man some Burger King

I wasn’t in pain, but my belly button was an “outie”.
About 20 years ago now I had a double hernia surgery done laparoscopically that involved 3 tiny incisions to take care of it.
Two were on each side of my abdomen and one was in the navel. Up till then I sported an "inny" and after surgery I now sport an "outie"----but the surgery was a success and it's great to not have any more issues with it.
Oh, and recovery was a snap for me.

My recovery was horrible!
Oschner couldn’t find the DEA# so zero pain meds and it was over the weekend so limited assistance to begin with.
The repair has held up though. Just before being wheeled off for discharge to have a valid prescription in hand and eat those pain pills like skittles the 1st 3 days.

Umbilical are easy.
Nothing compared to the inguinal hernia recovery.

Funny story. One of my co workers was sued for sexual harassment because a lady thought he was rubbing his penis on her arm but it was his umbilical hernia. Disclaimer: He is a physical therapist so he wasn't being a creep.

Just completed umbilical hernia surgery laparoscopically on November 15. Everything went well, lots of soreness initially and even tender till today. Only used the pain pills the first day then moved on to Extra Strength Tylenol to prevent the constipation.
If you need it, don't hesitate to get it.

Same surgeon/robot operated on my wife's inguinal hernia. She had a quick recovery. The only issue was the gas (CO2) that they inject into the abdominal cavity. She has virtually no abdominal fat and the fat makes it easier for the gas to dissipate.
The repair site itself was issue free.

Got the robot a few years ago. Pain after was pretty shitty, especially after the codeine made me start barfing. But it was fine after 2-3 days. Then just tired and sore for about a week.
