Do they actually not let you enlist if you have smoked pot in the past?

Sure they do. They just want to see if you are being honest with them.

Getting a security clearance is a bitch and they want to know your known associates all the way back to Adam and Eve.

My wife's mother died when she was 2 so when I was renewing my security clearance earlier this year I put I had a mother, father, brothers, etc., and a father-in-law. I left the mother-in-law box blank because I don't have one.

Two days later my package gets kicked back stating I must list a mother-in-law because I listed a father-in-law.

This woman died in 1988. My wife and I got married in 2010. How fricking stupid is that?

I wouldn't think it would matter. Like I said I filled out an app then never heard back. Never went to MEPS or anything. So if I just looked into AF, NG, Army, USMC I think I'd be fine. And I'm sure there are some degenerates currently serving in all of them, and if they can get in I can get in.

That's kinda what I'm thinking. Not a hard drug user, just a typical college kid like 6 years ago.

Just be honest and mention it. You'll probably have to list EVERY SINGLE TIME you smoked so you better remember what you put down with the recruiter because you'll be asked about it again for your security clearance and the amount of times better match up.

So, you know, instead of saying you were a typical college kid 6 years ago and list 47 instances of smoking weed, keep that shite down to 2 or 3 times. At least a number that is easy to remember.

I enlisted at 28

I thought basic training was a walk in the park. Yeah I was called old man, but it was fun.

Some of the stuff was bs once I got to my first duty station but you take the good with the bad

I just kept it simple and said the time I failed was the only time I'd ever smoked. Had a waiver after a 2 minute interview with a Major.

lol I can do that. I'm just curious if the AF would find out about that Navy recruiter years ago.

I wouldn't worry about smoking weed keeping you from getting in, I would worry about your credit.

If you have any bad credit it will severely limit the number of job choices for you.

If it's too bad you could be ineligible altogether.

I don't mean your overall credit score.

I mean not paying one bill 5 years ago because you forgot and it went to collections.

They murder you for petty bullshite like that.

10-4. Just not trying to have them think I'm being dishonest and try to frick me over if they found out. I get that they need people, and recruiters should work with you not against you. Sounds like they're pretty lax about it as long as you're clean.

Well all I know is I've only missed one payment and I was in Europe and tried like frick to call from overseas and couldn't. It slipped one month and I paid it when I got back. Everything else is paid on time.

Go in to the recruitment office. Tell them, "I want o kill, kill, KILL! I want to eat dead burnt bodies, I want veins in my teeth. I want kill, kill, KILL!!!" Then go sit on the group W bench and play with the pencils. Just hope they don't have any 8x10 color glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back explaining what each one is to be used as evidence against you.

I did a tour as a recruiter for the Navy. Here's the skinny:

They have no way to check your medical background. They only know what you tell them. If you have a condition that still bothers you, be honest about it. You don't want to put yourself in a situation where you might get hurt, and they will kick you out if they find out you have a condition and didn't tell them. But, if it's something that happened in the past and doesn't affect you any more, keep your mouth shut. Don't tell your recruiter, don't tell MEPS, don't tell anyone. They will never know, unless it's mentioned in an official record somewhere (like your school transcript mentions you had ADD or something like that).

Be honest about every run-in with the law you've ever had. I don't care what any judge might have told you, or whether the records were expunged or sealed because you were a youthful offender or for any other reason. The FBI does the background checks for prospective enlistees, and they see everything.

Can you pass a drug test? Are you sure? Good, then tell your recruiter you have never used drugs in your life. Be honest with them and you might end up fricking yourself. Drug usage requires a waiver no matter how long ago it was, and the more instances you admit to, the higher up the officer who has to approve your waiver. Admitting to drug use can also affect your ability to get a clearance. Remember, they have no way to know what you did in the past other than what you tell them about. Be smart and play dumb.

If you think there is even the slightest possibility you might fail a drug test, DO NOT GO TO MEPS. The policy may have changed in the past few years, but as recently as four years ago, if you failed a drug test at MEPS, you were banned from joining any branch of the military for the rest of your life. Don't chance it. Be absolutely sure.

If you previously admitted something to a recruiter that you shouldn't have, but never sent any paperwork to MEPS, you're probably fine to keep quiet about it as long as you go to a different branch. Now, if you sent paperwork to MEPS, or if you try to go back to the same branch, you're most likely fricked. They will know. Be up front about it and just see what hoops you have to jump through.

They will try to scare you about fraudulent enlistment at MEPS. Don't let them. Stick to your story and you'll be fine. When you get to boot camp they'll try to scare you even more. Ignore them. If you made it to boot camp, they already checked your background. They aren't going to check it again.
