I"d rather prices come down 40%. My internet is already 3X as fast as I need. Also I think the providers always had the ability to upgrade speeds but just gradually do so to give the appearance of "improving" service.

To a degree. 5G is going to require repeaters that are very close together. It's one reason roof rights are so valuable now in metropolitan areas. 5G also will not be available in large swaths across the country because of the need for close repeaters due to the more limited range of the repeaters.

Yes and no.
Your ISP probably has the ability in place to triple your neighborhood’s bandwidth.
The limiting factor is always the “last mile.”
In many cases you have cutting edge technology to your neighborhood but old school copper from there to your house.
Upgrading those systems can be slow.
