Crazy me I thought it was an established fact that they took henbane ( I didn't remember the name of the plant, I had to look that part up) in less than lethal doses because it mimic's activation of the sympathetic nervous system

That speculation comes from some findings at a gravesite of a berserker where they found the seeds of Hyoscyamus niger also commonly known as henbane or stinking nightshade. As the second name indicates, it is a member of the nightshade family and lethal in larger quantities but can induce a state very like the berserker state is described.

This isn’t wrong. I no longer drink either. Bad things are just below the surface. Not smart to give them such an easy path up to the top. Man was not meant to live the sedentary, peaceful, lives we now live.

I’m the most laid back person I know, until you flip the switch, then shite gets real. The times we live in are not friendly to alphas.

It’s possible but I don’t think so. They probably did, but sources talk about them foaming at the mouths with rage and many many references to biting their shields.

I do that when I fight

Ergot rot doesn’t necessarily cause like roid rage that berserker shite does

Not to mention, they seemed somewhat capable of causing there berserker state. Even if it was ptsd, that’s something you can trigger. If my memory serves, the grain species is usually all the could tell for ergus rot. Like “hey, once every few years, rye bread makes us go crazy. No more rye bread.” I don’t know if that’s something they could have controlled

I don't think he meant ergot rot. Ergot contains alkaloids that are lysergic acids (which were used to synthesize LSD by Albert Hoffman in the Sandoz Labs). It's believed the Greeks may have intentionally poisoned themselves with it (or at least somehow created a safer extract from it) by creating wine at the Eleusinian Mysteries to cause hallucinations/trips. The recipe was a religious secret though so the actual preparation has been lost.

It's a stretch but possible the Vikings did something similar?

Such a weird topic for so many OT bros to be dropping so many theories in.

I’m in the “some sort of methamphetamine” camp, but I have zero evidence. It just doesn’t seem like behavior caused by hallucinogens.

I think hallucinogens could easily have played a role in some regards. If the rituals leading g up to the battle but you into a state that you are an animal surrounded my animals. Your going to act like animals

Does ergot blight cause a similar experience to synthesized LSD or is it more of a “poisoning”?

I don’t know about y’all, but no psychedelic experience I’ve done has caused a desire to go out with the lads and put a Dane axe in a villager’s skull.

I think they saved the mushrooms for celebrations and to speak to the Gods. Mushrooms make you weird and think about things. In higher doses you are gonna be crawling the ground and licking dirt like it is chocolate at least that is my experiences.

One time, I remember getting really sad about a fish mounted on the wall. It was stuck. It wanted to swim away. So I grabbed a chair to get it off the wall. It probably took 5 minutes but felt like a couple of hours. I got up on the chair and I realized it was swimming or moving at all. After that I went outside and laid down on the soft grass and watched the clouds. It was pleasant.

I could see how one might think that though. Mushroom trips are kind of pulsating. Comes in slowly and then gets stronger and stronger but there are times when you are perfectly normal and then the weird turns back on real quick. It's almost like they give you a chance for a bathroom break but make it quick. Oh and don't ever ever look at a mirror it is a trap.

Fact. Which leads to depression and anxiety. We are tamed, controlled.

The experiences I've had >500mcg of LSD created super high energy, inability to sit still, etc. using dance and music as the outlet for that energy. I could see how that could translate to some extreme aggressive/"berserk" behavior if the setting were in a hostile, warlike environment. After all, the effects of a trip are heavily determined by set and setting (mindset and environment).
