This was another good one LINK

By the way this was a direct quote from the late Mr. Hitchens before the above debate
quote:
can tell you that my brothers and sisters, my co-thinkers, in the unbelieving community take him very seriously. He’s thought of as a very tough guy; very rigorous, very scholarly, very thoughtful. I say that without reserve. Normally I don’t get people saying to me ‘good luck tonight’ or ‘don’t let us down’ but with him I do.

Harris is right there with him.

Thanks for the link, that was a very good read.

Unfortunately it's also a little narcissistic for a pseudo-intellectual 30 year old in black rimmed glasses to disregard thousands of years of humanity that came before him now that he's acquired a Philosophy minor.

I am a Christian, but I have a healthy respect for Hitchens...he was far from a moron and I have followed and watched many of his debates.

Then 9/11 happened and he saw a bunch of leftist self-blame (ie we brought this on ourselves, blah blah blah) when he recognized it as an assault on society by Islamic fanaticism. It changed his world view considerably and he became an outspoken proponent of the War in Iraq, much to the dismay of a lot of his friends and the intellectual community.
Arguing that the war in Iraq would make the world less safe because it would breed new terrorists is not self-blame. He said that anyone that argued that the war in Iraq would make the world less safe should be laughed at in ignored (typical of his bullying, irrational style of debate). Time has shown that he was resoundingly and disturbingly wrong in that particular belief, but he would never cop to it.

No offense, but that's a naughty school boy's understanding of "religion". Religion is simply a belief system and a structure to help a person abide by the convictions of that belief system. "Progressing" past a belief system is not a possibility. Transforming, adjusting, or regressing, maybe, but not progressing past.
Let me rephrase.. getting rid of evangelical Christianity and extremism in all religions. Especially Islam or any other belief system that lends itself to violence.

It's amazing how an intellectual atheist can make you all abandon the love of Jesus so quickly. He owned you in life and death.
Nice. Yup.

If there is a heaven and a hell, why would Hitchens, who worked hard to convert people to atheism and who spent a lot of time attacking the most important saint of the 20th century in Mother Teresa ever be allowed into heaven? He would be burning in the 9th level of hell.
Because maybe seeking out truth via reason is how you get in...sort of "good job, you figured out the game" from the Flying Spaghetti Monster ,who then changes the rules of it.
...though in that case, William F. Buckley would be in hell.

I hate him mainly for his attacks on Mother Teresa.
What has he said about Mother Theresa that you disagree with ?

Social philosophy is for people too stupid to be a physicist or like minded field but still need attention for their version of reality.

Carl Sagan died in 1996 if you would consider him in our time. He has always been a personal favorite of mine.

What a sophisticated, mature argument you make. So far in the anti-Hitchens corner in this thread, we have a guy who wants to be molested as an altar boy, a self described Christian who wants his enemies to suffer and burn in hell, and a gif of a pissing monkey. That's the intellectual caliber that's shown up.
Hitchens wins. Like someone else said, he owns you in life and death.
