Of course, anyone on here will say I just joined a cult, but thus far no one has offered me Kool Aid so I think I'm good.
No, you called it a gym, the cultist call it a box.

Join a swingers club. Service old women.
Join a multi-level marketing company.
Get a job selling used cars.
Run for political office.
Join the NAACP.
join the KKK.
Join The Rotary Club.
Become a Shriner's Clown.
Become a pimp.
Really the list is endless. You need to be a self-starter. Pick a couple of these, put yourself out there.

Yeah I'm the first to admit some of the terminology is overkill and ridiculous, but I enjoy the workouts and as I've said I have met some good people along the way. Which was nice when I moved to a place where I knew literally no one.

I would stop posting and spending a bunch of time on a message board for starters.

You sound like me when I was in school. I then started posting here and meeting people from here. Now all I hang out with is posters from TD and I love it.

So you have been in college for 1 year right? And you didn't meet anyone? Do you have anyone on campus you know. I would say I have a fairly large "social circle". Of course things change over the years & I don't see some people as much, etc but when I got to college, I had several friends there I knew before college, they met people, I met people and then at some point everyone sort of ended up crossing paths.
I remember one time a friend of mine had a class with this guy I knew. It was well into the semester when I was talking with my friend right before his class, the guy I knew in his class passed by and we started talking, then they never talked to each other until that day because I introduced them. They became friends, then realized they knew some of the same people because they were in the same major so from that one connection it lead to about 6 or 7 people all meeting each other.
There were a time or two where I would be waiting for a class and I see someone I sort of knew, would go talk with them, become better friends. Its all about finding common interest. You have to become cool with people from different social circles then bridge each other from there.

That's complicated.
You just need friends who make friends who you can introduce to friends you make... It creates a nice network.

Oh and you cant be a douche. Don't be one of those kids who think its cool to brag about how drunk you got the nice before or how you will skip class because "you don't even care". When you are not sure something you want to say sounds stupid, keep it safe and don't say it until you get to know people better.

What are some ways to meet other people and make actual friends.
If it's hard at first, keep pushing until it's easier. For most people, social skills are a muscle you make stronger by using.
Try to never eat lunch alone. If you see someone from one of your classes, go over and ask to sit with them. Talk class then branch out from there.
Go as a group to eat supper or grab froyo or coffee.
In your tougher classes, ask around for study groups, which are better if none of your HS friends are in.
As said, clubs are worth jumping into and finding one that works for you. Join 2-3. See what happens.
But being a dorm rat is not what you want. You can meet people now that will be friends for ever. But you can't doing by being shy.
And don't wait til October to get social. Start on day one when you get back on campus.
