I will aim to ramp up my daily prayer.
I will aim to limit myself to one cigar a night.
Don't forget alms for the poor, we are called to that, as well. Will likely put some more in the parish food pantry than I normally do.

I'm giving up food. Need to lose about 20 pounds.

Sweets. That's a big penance for me. I've been doing it for the last 50 years.

Insecure???? I'm not the one who believes in the omnipotent being who wields control over all things-----------for good or bad.

I'm giving up hope that we may see a conservative Democrat again before I go to meet my maker. You know, the kind of Democrats that used to have morals and stood for what was right in America. The kind that advocated for fellow Americans, not for illegals that suck teat of the taxpayers.
I guess those kind of Democrats went the way of the buffalo! Oh, well.....

I did alcohol last year and it was way more difficult than I thought it would be. St. Patrick’s Day parade sober was an utterly miserable experience I have no plans of repeating. It made me never want to fully give up drinking again.

My wife and I decided to convert to Catholicism in the late 80s for the jokes. We talked to a priest and he said we would have to give up something meaningful to start. We decided on sex. A month later we went for a follow up and the priest asked how it was going....we said it was fine until last Tuesday when. while getting stuff together for supper, my wife dropped a tomato and when she bent over to pick it up I couldn't take it and made love to her right on the spot. The priest said this was understandable but we couldn't go the church....and I told him it was OK, we also couldn't go back to that Kroger.....

If anyone is interested in finding something extra to DO during Lent instead of just giving something up, I have two suggestions:
Go to a nursing home and visit with a resident from your Church or with any resident that the management thinks could use a visitor
The Early Church Fathers: Do a bit of internet research and read a few letters from Saint Irenaeus, Polycarp or Saint Ignatius of Antioch. Find some good ones and read one every other day, so you can spend the off day thinking about what you read.
