And I really think their left-leaning tendencies are a little overstated, to be honest.

I think that maybe some people find it to be pretentious and/or boring, and that's why they don't like it. Is the left generally associated with pretension?

The Diane Rehm Show isn't bias?

Cant handle that shite, but I think one somewhat biased show in the lineup sort of backs up my statement.

Hard to find anothet mass media outlet that is less biased.

Yes, NPR is partially funded with tax dollars. How many tax loopholes and tax breaks do think you would find if you looked into the corporate structure of Fox News?

TED Radio Hour

Science Friday

Marketplace (which is broadcast on my NPR station but is APM)

Diane Rehm (one of the best interviewers in the media IMO)

Makes me feel old when I tell people I listen to it and they look at me crazy (I am 34). Wait wait is freaking hilarious and their news reporting doesn't lean to far left or right at least to me. I like it a lot.

I listen to npr daily. It defiantly has a liberal bias, but at least they do a good job with the news.

Listen to NPR daily. Love it.

I guess I don't see the huge Liberal bias in the reporting but there is definitely a left lean.

It doesn't really bother me because the reporting is so thorough and solid and there seems to be little editorializing in the reporting (lot's of first-person perspective) which is nice.

The entertainment shows are great. Really enjoy Wait Wait, Radio lab, TED Radio Hour, Science Friday, Ask Me Another, Car Talk, etc...

NPR receives only 7% of its finances from Federal grants (which it must compete for) and the money from those grants must be applied directly to why the grant was given in the first place, not to fund general operations

This is kind of splitting hairs and is disingenuous separating out the stations, operations, and salaries from the NPR budget , it gives the appearance that number is correct, however in reality it is far from the truth. The total outlay from all public funding for you to hear the radio station in your car is more like 70%-80%. I will find the figures in a bit but that is what I remember them to be from the last MS budget battle. It's kind of like the bullshite highway signs claiming only X% of this was from LA tax money as if LA residents don't pay federal taxes. I like NPR but lets try to be real here.

Well yeah. It's publicly funded by a bunch of shite. Whether your state sends tax dollars to fund NPR, I couldn't tell you, but the notion that the Fed pays for NPR is incorrect.

Unless you can explain this better, I don't think I see your point.

Kafka is correct and I'm a staunch liberal. A real liberal, mind you, not a Neoliberal Democrat.

NPR is far above any of these outfits on every level. Is there a slight bias? Yes. Is it an absurd display of corporate servility and massaged vantage points catering to a sect of people that could be led into a raging inferno? No.
